Is turf toe even a thing anymore?

I'm pretty certain it is. But if my memory is serving me well, you're seeing players affected playing on real grass as well as turf. I think Antonio Gates of the Chargers had a really bad turf toe injury a couple of years ago and it bothered him for almost the entire year.

I'm guessing it has more to do with the size, speed and athleticism of today's players as opposed to the type of surface.

It is strangely convenient for Butch that coming off our worst performance of the season (and by far worst offensive performance of the season), and a pretty bad offensive showing the week before, that the narrative in the beat media and fanbase is all about the condition of the grass rather than the shoddy product playing on it since Halloween. Maybe it shouldn't come as a surprise that Butch has gone public with this to get the heat off him a bit. Maybe it's a classic "look over here" ploy. Maybe not.

There is no doubt the condition of the field isn't good -- but I was on the sidelines for the USCjr game and it really wasn't all that bad either. Just kind of meh for this time of year given all the rain.

Butch is clever, and cunning - he knows how to play the spin game. Wouldn't put it past him to be intentionally drawing attention away from the team's recent performance. If any of you watched or listened to the presser on Monday, he happily took longer to answer the numerous questions about the field condition than he did the few questions on the meh performance the team gave against North Texas.

JMO but I think any coach worth his salt should want to make sure his team has the best playing surface possible as the announcers during the game so pointed out multiple times. He even said with all our great facilities, we need a good field to play on. And any AD who can't see this.... Just get it fixed!! It's an embarrassment that our guys have to play on a field that looks worse than my yard and that's pretty bad lol!

You mean the great Halloween performance on Field Turf?

Lot of truth.

IF its because he's being pouty, that's one thing. Something no one has any proof of, btw. Switching because the field is absolutely ****ing terrible and borderline dangerous is another.

Not even borderline; it IS dangerous. It's a very short leap from slipping on a cut to pulling a hammy, spraining an ankle or tearing a knee ligament.

Personally I don't care whether it's turf or grass. I just want something that is safe, performs well and looks good (in that order).

It's the predominant narrative because it has only become noticeably terrible the last couple of weeks. You seem to think that because our offense is struggling, Butch is blaming the field when it's much more likely that the field is terrible and that has caused our offense to struggle.

keeping a grass field at Neyland, imo, is a bigger deal long term than having CBJ as the football coach - so if the reports of him pouting publicly because he wants field turf and can't get his way are true, then he can take that shtick on down the road back to the AAC.

I like Top Button Jones, but this whinyness over the grass is pitiful. How about he focus on having his team mentally prepared to win football games (which has clearly been lacking the last two weeks).

So you believe all that without any evidence? Is that called confirmation bias or something like that?

Dude we get it..you just want to gripe at Butch. The field sucks. It sure ain't Butches fault it is a narrative. Everyfreakinbody can see with their own eyes what is going on out there. The field sucks giant wang right now. It is pathetic to try to fold that into the anti-Butch agenda.

I like Butch.

Field isn't as big an issue as the team's recent performance, imo. Not even close.

If getting turf installed plays to our advantage and helps UT win more games, I'll load up my dozer and head south to get the party started!!
I get it, natural grass is beautiful, but not sufficient for a seasonal climate area like East Tennessee during colder months.

This level of stupidity cannot be unseen. Did you really just put more value in our playing surface than our coach? Do you even think about what you type/ say before saying it or do you just vomit it out?

Missouri is a good team. We win by 1 and I'll be happy.

I just don't see it. They almost lost to Arkansas St and Uconn, lost to UK and Vandy, averaged scoring 6.25 points scored in their 4 straight losses, and have a record of 5-5 overall. What screams good to you? We should handle them easily.

Winning 3 straight games is a problem?

The field is in horrible shape, the announcers the other day spent quite a bit of time talking about it. Butch isn't the one asking the questions in these pressers.

How about you guys put away your pitch forks until the next UT loss.

The home field is a football coach's office. That is where he does his work and makes his money. Sure, there are some limitations because Neyland won't be torn down. But he dam sure has the right to suggest ideas and make things happen just like we all do in our work spaces. I am sure Butch would be fine with natural grass if they can get it right. You guys with some of your crazy thoughts..

They are peaking right now coming off their best performance and have their starting RB healthy again. On the flip side, we are coming off our worst performance. I think it'll all come down to whether Dobbs can run or not.
