Just throwing this out for discussion...

In no way am I making light of Pinkel's medical condition, but does anyone think he was forced out due to the racism stuff or he decided to resign due to the racism stuff, and they are using his medical condition as the excuse? Why wait until 3 games are left to announce it, especially when that happens to fall a week after all the racism stuff happened on campus? Doesn't add up.

Good points, baby. He threw his bosses under the bus. It sure wasn't going to get any easier after everything settles down and he was planning an exit at the end of the season or next anyway.

Team had developed a quitter attitude, didn't know how to win, frequently rolled over when games got tough (ask Marlon Walls).

Relationships with high school coaches across the state were fractured or broken.

Most of the legacy/in-state class from 2014 was looking to go elsewhere.

OL and DL were headed toward disaster in 2014 regardless of what the new coach did.

No talent at QB.

No talent at WR.

No team speed anywhere.

Special teams were a disaster.

Defense needed yet another scheme change away from the 3-4 disaster.

Yep, looks like death's door to me. Just because Tennessee has a big fanbase and a lot of resources doesn't mean it's an unsinkable ship.

I would add that Butch Jones pulled us out of APR hell. If I recall, we were one more bad semester in the classroom away from a post-season ban.

Vandy was a pretty good team with franklin

They always come back with their easy schedule. In 2012 they won 9 games including 5 in the SEC. Everybody around here is going to be happy with 9 games and 5 in the SEC this season. lol.

Ya but most nfl OG would be above average college OT.

I'm not sure that's entirely true. And if it is, a lot of that would be due to the improvement they've made since joining the NFL and the level of play they've been a part of. It's not really a fair comparison to use that against Kerbyson.

Still, I'd imagine plenty of RGs in the NFL would have their fair share of troubles protecting the blindside for an SEC school. A lot of NFL OGs just wouldn't have the length for it. Plenty of them are only 6'2 or 6'3 (New England's Shaq Mason, a TN native, is only 6'1).

No matter what happens for the rest of Jones' career at UT, this needs to be remembered. There were many who thought we'd have no chance to get out of that hole.

I'm of the opinion that, regardless of how Jones pans out, he'll have done a hell of a job in righting the ship and leaving behind an attractive or even enviable position for his successor.

I hope Hurd is studying film of his runs. He'd be breaking a lot of runs if he just follows his blocks. Running plays don't always look good starting out. But bouncing everything just kills the blocking scheme. Kinda funny how the running plays look to be blocked better when Kamara or Kelly are running.

Eh... Has he not navigated the financial mess he inherited somewhat well? :dunno:

Don't have much of an opinion either way, but fixing finances is very easy when you own and control the process when someone else made the mess.

We have lived through the worst stretch of Tennessee football since the 70s...it was in ruins when Johnny came marchin home...and it was in ruins when Butch got here. If Butch does no more than what CJM did, and stabilizes, and rebuilds the program to very good level...he will have earned every penny...and some freakin respect from you bunch of jerkwads.

I was thinking about this today, and his "6-7" years to rebuild comment. If you graph it out (and apologies for the the graph - if I had to do it again I would have made UT bigger and orange), Majors's tenure looks like a long, persistent climb out of purgatory.

Maybe that's the UT way? It takes a little more time, but once the ball gets rolling and we get a coach that sticks around, we have a juggernaut that lasts?

This has been basically my only complaint about him. I get that it must be difficult to trust those guys given their poor track record and that Hurd has had some success just bouncing his runs to the outside and being a better athlete than the competition. But if we're gonna have success on the ground and grind out wins the next two weeks, he needs to follow his blockers better.

Also, I'd like to see more of Hurd and Kamara on the field together the next two weeks. There's just so much we can do with them there together.

I'm not as hard on Hurd as you guys. But I understand where you're coming from. To whom much is given, much is required. I thought he followed his blocks well against NT, but consider the resistance.

My only Hurd complaint, and I think he does everything very very good, is that he tends to get tripped up by the second level of he defense once he breaks though the front 7. He routinely gets foot-tackled by a nickel or safety where he had nothing but 6 points waiting for him.

How cool would it be for Keenan Reynolds to win the Army-Navy game at 3:00 pm then make the short trip from Philly to New York later that night to be awarded the Heisman Trophy?

Don't see it happening, but would like to see. Normally pull for army, I seriously consisted enlisting after high school, but I'll pull for Navy if they're 10-1.

I'm so pumped that a movie about Krampus is coming out. As a second gen German, I grew up learning about being a bad boy led to being kidnapped by a devil goat thing and beaten with branches for eternity. Germans enjoy making minor life lessons into the scariest **** ever. Now everyone gets to experience it!

My earlier posts may not seem like ringing endorsements but it is clear to me Butch has done wonders to right the ship. I think much of the debate is really centered around navigating it back to championship waters. Be it ability or speed. In reality we've all scratched our heads or cursed a time or two on this journey.

My opinion is Butch has a great strategy but it's arguably a longer term one and one with potentially less success early. One debate is when is the long term plan in place? Butch hinted 6-7 but that's another debate and point of contention. Overall I believe in his body of work but I see many missed chances too. I think we all do.
