I have to agree with Chavis. The major lacking element in 2012 was a defensive plan and some oline recruits. Obviously talent was below avg but not Mizzou level. Butch chose his way which in some cases was the long way and I support that. I can also respect the opinion it's taken longer than neccessary because I believe it has.

Chaney and Pittman are 2 examples of possible faster fits.

Team had developed a quitter attitude, didn't know how to win, frequently rolled over when games got tough (ask Marlon Walls).

Relationships with high school coaches across the state were fractured or broken.

Most of the legacy/in-state class from 2014 was looking to go elsewhere.

OL and DL were headed toward disaster in 2014 regardless of what the new coach did.

No talent at QB.

No talent at WR.

No team speed anywhere.

Special teams were a disaster.

Defense needed yet another scheme change away from the 3-4 disaster.

Yep, looks like death's door to me. Just because Tennessee has a big fanbase and a lot of resources doesn't mean it's an unsinkable ship.

Had Butch not been a control freak and been more flexible like McElwain has with his staff you could have:

Kept Chaney and Pittman
Brought in Butch's defensive staff which transitioned reasonably fast.

Recruited like hell.


Instead he has
Let his OC walk
Hired a croney OC to "help" Mahoney
Assisted Azzani

so basically his entire offense is on crutches and he scrapped one that set school records.

Just devil's advocate stuff.

ps Chaney and Peterman are aiight at Pitt. Coincidence maybe.

Remember the time we didn`t even put someone back to field a punt. Think about that for a minute. Yes we are a better team and getting better.

I think you can make (and I have) that you are both right. Butch brought so much of what was needed at UT. Stability and recruiting being paramount of those. I do not believe, and I believe a case can be made think Butch's offense was what we needed to compete. Long term maybe but short term it has cost us. Look at how Worley was misused in the offense.

Specifically our arms race with UF. They actual had more talent on papee but that was supposed to end this year with a strong class. Instead as gators are hinting it could swing back in their favor.

What is this great gators recruiting class you're worried about? They have 19 commits already and aren't in the top 10 on any list. Plus unlike past years there aren't 4-5 five stars waiting to commit on NSD.

Florida will always have the advantage in recruiting because of the instate talent, however, our staff are better recruiters. We should be able to recruit well enough to be right there with Florida every year.

Its unrealistic to think we could outrecruit Florida the way they've outrecruited us for the last 10 years.

I just want to beat their 4 year avg going into 2016. If you do the math we were crossing trajectories and have a chance to be ahead a year or 2. We need a top 10 class for that to be plausible. I haven't looked at their current commits but I see enough gator chatter here to know they expect a big close. It's still possible but IMO very important for breaking the trend. All the years of Meyer and Muschamp winning they had more talent.

USCe two years ago when they finished ranked 4th in the nation is a stronger win then ~95% of D1 coaches have in that span.

Jashon Robertson practiced for the first time in two weeks really and Preston Williams got some work as well.

Usual guys in green like Hurd, Malone, etc., but overall more guys back at practice than in some time, including more work from Kendrick.

Major emphasis on getting hands up on pass rush for the Vols' DL.

Jancek says he's loving what he's getting from Kirkland, way he calls, sets fronts, communicates blitzes, says has been able to blitz a little bit more bc of Kirkland's growth.

It's a great place to live. I lived here all my life. Ive did quite a bit of traveling the cost of living is cheap compared to some parts of Tennessee. Like they said the city schools are better than County but both are fairly good. Hour and a half from Knoxville is always great. One hour from the Great Smoky Mountains. 1 hour from ski resorts in North Carolina. Five and a half hours from the beach. We have lots of outdoor activities in the area. The only complaint I have about this area is jobs if you're in the medical field you have it licked.Manufacturing base company's are limited. Lots of new shopping centers and places to eat in Johnson City. Johnson City is rebuilding downtown similar to Asheville. Hope this helps and see you around. We should wait to see how the season ends before eulogizing CBJ.

If we finish 6-7 (a possibility) or 7-6, I'm very worried. 8-5 and I'm wait and see. 9-4 and I'm feeling pretty good.

6-7 would be about as bad of situation as their is. Thatd be really bad for our team and fans would be frickin crazy

Totally this.

Hart pulls the trigger on Year 2 of Dools and it's a .500 program with upside due to the offense. But that didn't happen. The D being so bad in Year 3 was scheme design for the players on the roster. The O was garlic strong in Year 3. Remember how everybody was surprised and impressed with the D performance under CJJ after what had happened the year before? Then last year it was even better. He had some talent to work with beyond the new recruits. That is not indicative of a program in ruins by any stretch.

Agree. He'll be back no matter what anyway. Hope he's back with the 9-4.
