Some recruits wanted to see a better a couple more wins this year probably

still got atleast a chance to get to 9 even after blowing all kinds of leads. If he were to go from 5, 7, to 9 wins then thats still progress. But yes we should have more wins right now obviously.

Yeah. I'm not too concerned about recruiting just yet. If we do win the rest like you said I think it'll all take care of itself.

But that's a big if. We really, really need to win out to carry momentum into signing day and into the 2016 season. A loss vs Vandy or Missouri would be a setback iyam

I agree this class will have a few gems but overall down year. I hate it too because we need a great class to continue trend and stay above our competitors. If UF has a monster year they'll remain ahead of us in talent. All we need is a top 10 to edge them though. I am not a fan of the it's down for 2017 purposes talk. We could still have a top shelf small class. USC and UF have done it not long ago.

Anybody else starting to get a little nervous about the 2016 recruiting class?

We're down to about ~75 days left, 30 of which are a dead period. We have some gems (Guarantano, Osborne, Johnson, Fils-Aime, Brooks if healthy), but we don't have the depth of high-quality talent that we did in the last two classes.

We're still in on some great players (Warrior, Hardman, Davis, Brown, Dickerson), but most of them seem to be trending in the wrong direction at this point. I'm not panicking by any means, but I'd be lying if I said I'm not getting a bit worried.

Some perspective here: 'worried' as in 'worried that our class might be more of the 15-20 tier than the top 10 or top 5'. We're not screwed. But barring a phenomenal finish, we do appear to be looking at a drop from the last couple of classes.

A lot of people were expecting this to be a "down year" in recruiting based on the end ranking due to the fact that we can only take 20 guys total. (that number may have changed since the last I looked.) However, I do believe a lot of recruits are still wanting to see how we end this season. IMO we must win out plus win our bowl this season. The bowl is not as huge as the winning the rest of the regular season, but it would definitely help solidify that we are definitely coming back.

Coaching carousel and solid finish should give us a lift but I believe we'd be hearing more already if that is the case. Too much negativity this year and too few immediate PT opportunities IMO to make this a great year.

Yeah, this year's recruiting class has been a known commodity for quite some time.

To be exact, I'm pretty sure that it was early summer when I said if UT got a class that ranked in the top 8 this year that I would streak through The Fort.

Look for this year's class to be somewhere around 9-14.

Hey, we've been pretty spoiled the past couple years by Butch on the recruiting trail.

That being said, we have the chance to go get the top DE in JUCO, the top CB in JUCO, and already have the top DT in JUCO.

Anybody else feel like we're targeting JUCO kids a little more heavily than usual? I get that the idea is win-now, but I hope this isn't at the expense of investing in younger recruits that are our future as a program.

The thing that sucks about being outside the top 10 means you're behind several SEC teams

The jury is still out IMO. We seem to be in on a lot more high profile prospects who are making late decisions this year compared to the last couple of recruiting cycles. I really think the success of our class this year hinges on the decisions of a few elite guys like Warrior, Brown, Davis, Dickerson, Callaway, Hardman, and a few others. Land a handful of those guys and the class is a smashing success. Strike out and it may be a bit if a disappointment.

And thank God he didn't get the guy he wanted. Strong has been a disaster at Texas. I think it's fair to say that he'd have done similarly here. And yeah, while CBJ is trending upwards, he's yet to solidified anything other than recruiting.

The Tyndall hire is enough to have him fired at some schools. Hiring a football grounds keeper...with no experience?? Yeah...he's not the best personnel guy.

Dude, recruiting is the lifeblood of any football program. This is where Butch shines. If you believe we're not getting better, you're nuts. It may not be on your schedule but we're pretty damn close to being back. One more year of stud recruits should do it for us.

I remember talking to my father a couple weeks ago about how we are progressing. He said that if you look at each year that Butch has been here you see that in year 1 when we lost it was on an average of 23 points. In year 2 our losses were by an average of 13.5 points. This year (year 3) our losses have been by an average of 4.25 points. Just by looking at those numbers I see progress. We beat UGA and that is progress. We will beat MIZZ and that will be progress. I know there are definitely other areas that need progress, but our W column is seeing progress as well as how badly we are being beat by. We are no longer just laying down and letting people roll over us. We hit back and play until the end in those games now.

Anyone live in the Johnson City/Kingsport area? I am applying for jobs in the Eastern part of the state and wanted some insight into this area. Any information about cost of living/schools/ communities, etc. would be appreciated.

Develop a killer mentality and I'll be satisfied.

I think we start out with one but we can't "carry the fight." Its like we get in our own heads about being up on teams and our coaches refuse to go for the throat, instead being content to let our defense keep small leads.

Sure, the 2016 class might be a touch down when its all said and done, but worrying about it now its pointless.

The coaching carousel will be absolute CHAOS. Start thinking about how many people could move and it gets crazy...

Kingsport
I grew up here from birth till HS Graduation then headed on to UT so I know it well. Dobyns Bennett HS is one of the best public schools in the state. If you live in the city limits your kids would go there.

It is a nice conservative community and a really great place to raise a family/grow up. Fun Fest is a pretty good time in the summer and it seems like downtown Kingsport has started to get some decent local eateries to choose from. But overall the nightlife in Kingsport is non-existent.

Fairacres, Ridgefields and Preston Forest are my favorite neighborhoods.

Eastman is huge and obviously supports the city, good healthcare options as well.

Johnson City

I never lived here but have obviously spent a lot of time here. JC has a much better nightlife than Kingsport. It has much more to offer a mid 20's-early 30's person than Kingsport.

Science Hill is a good school but not on DB's level.

JC is closer to the mountains but both have nice outdoor activities and Lakes nearby.

All in all it is a great place to live, but has a pretty slow pace of life.

Hope that helps.

Take it from and old guy that has seen a lot through the years, nothing is ever as bad as it seems or as good as it seems. There is nothing that screams "NC" and there's nothing that screams "failure" about Butch, his staff, or his system at this point. We have gone through a lot as a fan base and want this painful climb back to be over now. Not happening soon and we really don't know if it will happen at all. There has been step by step improvement. We are in the prove it stage with recruits. They saw the last two classes. They want to see it translate into winning at a high level on the field like all of us do. So it becomes a coaching and development period of proving it up. Will see.

As to Hart: Nothing has been better about UT since Joe Johnson retired other than facilities upgrades. Even the Pearl period had bad stuff attached. Nothing turns out as good as Hart sells it when he does something. Nothing.

Lot of truth here. Wisdom too.

I currently live in JC. We really like it for the most part. I grew up in another part of East TN so I may already have some bias. I miss some of the bigger city luxuries like nicer/better restaurants and movie theaters, but JC is improving in those areas and Bristol just opened a brand new theater which is around 30 mins away. There is also a lot of new shopping opening in Bristol. Asheville is only an hour away and has great food and good shopping as well. Knoxville is about 1.5 hours away so not too far. We drive down a couple of times per month. The city schools in the area are supposed to be pretty good. The county schools not so much, but county schools in general seem to have a lesser reputation than city. (I went to a county school and think I turned out alright.) There are several hospitals around. JC is full of medical offices in part because the med school and VA. I probably haven't lived long enough to get a firm grasp on the variations in cost of living around the state or country, but JC seems to have a low cost of living in my experience.

I don't go to Kingsport too often, but Dobyns Bennett is probably one of the better high schools in the state. Of course Kingsport has Eastman which is the prominent business in the area. Kingsport doesn't seem to have too much to offer in the way of things to do, although I have heard good things about the parks. JC has more things for the younger crowd due to ETSU being in the middle of the city. It is definitely noticeable when summer comes because the roads and city are less crowded without so many students. The area has good outdoor recreation with parks and hiking just minutes away. Good places to ski in NC only an hour away. Unfortunately, the local lake in JC will be empty for a few years due to a sink hole near or under the damn, so that has caused a lot of people to put there homes for sale that are on the lake. But there are other lakes nearby such as Watauga which is very pretty.

Sorry for the sloppiness of the post but hope that helps!
