If we win out and win our bowl do you feel satisfied? If not are you disappointed?

We have to soundly beat an extremely good team in the bowl game for me to be happy about the season. I don't know that we get that caliber of an opponent though. Now to be happy about NEXT year I just want to take care of business like the Iowa game.

I'm satisfied with that. Would be most wins since 2007, and another clear (not huge like we'd hoped) step in the right direction.

Obviously we left some games on the table but an 8-4 record puts us solidly at 2nd in the east, with wins over everyone in the division except Florida.

When Butch took over we were competing with Vandy/UK and everyone else in the conference was head and shoulders better than us. We routinely got beaten by 14+ points on a weekly basis. 8-4 and a nice bowl win means in my eyes we've separated from Vandy/UK/Mizzou, pulled even/slightly ahead of UGA/USC, and are ready to compete with UF/Bama each year.

I will feel pretty damn satisfied. Two seasons ago we were one of the worst teams in the SEC. Now we are towards the top of the middle-tier, if not the bottom of the top-tier.

And perhaps this is just a "coping mechanism", but I think that 8-4 or 9-3 were probably the ceilings this year. If we beat OU and UF, we probably lose to UGA (Chubb doesn't get hurt) and USC somehow--probably due to caving under the pressure of winning the East.

The one loss that keeps pissing me off more than any other is actually the Arkansas game. OU and UF beat us on miracles and Alabama beat us because they are just a better team. But we were disinterested and let Arkansas get the W.

If we were 6-3 right now and poised to go 10-3, the vibe around the program would be a bit better than it is right now IMO.

Well said.
AR is definately the game that sticks in my craw even though I said at the beginning of the season they were built for us.

Yep. The wet field killed us IMO...as did the brutal UF loss. Up 14-0 and I believe Preston had a chance to make it 21-7 before fumbling, right?

As for me I'd actually be happy. Satisfied was where I would have been before the Bama outing. This team is legit and I believe sadly they had to learn the hard way, but I think they have. I'd rather have measured growth than a flash in the pan.

it was all mental imo

The infighting over Crowder I think snapped them back into it.

Too many lost chances early in the red zone killed us. You leave points on the field early and it always comes back to bite you. I knew we were going to lose halfway through the second quarter because of missed opportunities. The whole stadium was lifeless, just like the team.

Keeping the team on the right track mentally is going to be a huge challenge for Butch next year. Although winning 6 in a row to finish out the season this year will go a long way toward preparing them.

Yet again, the UF game is going to be massive. And Gameday will probably be in town, as both programs may be ranked in the top 10 for what will essentially be the battle for the East. Oh, and we will probably Checker Neyland...again.

Yep. That's why I thought the Malone drop was going to kill us against USC. Kudos to the defense for finally making a stop and getting the turnover we so desperately needed in other games this year.

I'd be satisfied. We still need to win out though. It would be disappointing to drop any of these remaining games. Mizzou and Vandy have stout defenses and given our struggles against what was considered a middling defense in USC, I'm worried about both of those.

I'm reasonably confident we'll beat North Texas :)

ETA: "defense," not "difference." I are good writer and spell many word.

Their offenses are just so, so bad though. South Carolina was a much bigger test than Mizzou or Vandy, IMO.

Mizzou has a small chance of beating us, but it would take a pick six or a turnover deep in their territory and a long fluke TD play by them. They aren't stringing together scoring drives against us. We won't move the ball easily on them, either, but we have too many weapons on offense to not occasionally hit some big plays.

Will be something like 17-3 or 17-10, IMO.

As for Vandy...Houston shut them out and scored 34, and our offense is better according to the adjusted rankings. Wouldn't be surprised to see a thorough beatdown in that game.

I dont think this team could line straight up in the power and run on teams. Need more experience at OL. To offset that the read option is perfect with all the misdirection. I really hope they take in his concerns also, I love the kid.

I think you hit the nail on the head. If you take away the read option, you'll get the same results as last year with Worley at quarterback. Maybe a little better, but not much.

I will be very satisfied, when you take the whole season into account, including how close we were to being a playoff contender, all the injuries we overcome, etc. All of this in the 3rd year...I think if we end up 9-4, we can say that we might be a year ahead of schedule with the rebuild.

When it is all said and done, people will look back at our schedule and understand just how hard that first half was. Not many teams played three teams doing as well as Oklahoma, Bama and Florida. And Bowling Green was no cupcake. Georgia had its issues but could end up a 10 win team. Arkansas is clearly a tough out.

Give our team Iowa, Baylor or TCU's schedule to this point and we are undefeated.

That's the element of the last eight years that has probably been among the most frustrating. People look at Tennessee and say we stink or underachieve, but we play a ridiculous schedule year in and year out.

Given our injuries, youth and inexperience I will be satisfied with winning out. Don't want to count my chickens before they hatch though. I think both Mizzou and Vandy will be four quarter dog fights.

If we beat Mizzou, they will protest....:whistling:
