I feel like I'm lacking a lot of context in this Missouri thing, and after reading about it for a few minutes I don't understand it any better than I did in the beginning.
I get that Missouri is a shrieking kettle right now given the stuff going on in Ferguson, but at UM, what was Wolfe supposed to do? He has set up programs to promote racial diversity. Unfortunately, it's pretty impossible to stop ignorant people from speaking. I don't understand how Wolfe has become the scapegoat for the actions of others; presumably, he didn't encourage or in any way condone the behavior, so how is he responsible? And what does a **** swastika have to do with any of it?
Also, "check your ____ privilege" is quickly becoming one of my least favorite phrases.
I don't admit to knowing much about what is/was happening at Missouri, but college campuses across the country have become beholden to whatever interest group yells the loudest. There was a time when college campuses were about having and exploring different opinions. Now it's about cow towing to political correctness and not hurting anyone feelings with a different opinion or idea. I'm not saying that hate and racism should be tolerated (like I said I don't know the specifics about what is happening in Missouri) but college administrations have allowed/promoted this and deserve what is happening to them.
