Missouri Players Go On Strike (merged)

correct me if i am wrong, but i think most of the issue has been thelack of speediness at which he has responded and handled some of the racist claims, not that it is his fault they happened, but that he hasn't changed the environment and culture to be feasible for these actions to stop happening....he even admitted a change is necessary; not so much that he has to step down but something has to be done about how certain groups are being treated on campus, this IS NOT just about the football players here

Missouri president says change is needed, but he did not resign

also it says the AD made those decision not to practice after speaking with players and not the HC.

"Today, Sunday, there will be no football practice or formal team activities," athletics director Mack Rhoades said in a statement. "Our focus right now is on the health of Jonathan Butler, the concerns of our student-athletes and working with our community to address this serious issue. After meeting with the team this morning, it is clear they do not plan to return to practice until Jonathan resumes eating. We are continuing to have department, campus, and student meetings as we work through this issue and will provide further comment (Monday) afternoon"

It's not a moot point because even their coach says they won't practice until the kid who is protesting by not eating finally eats. This is bigger than you are thinking. Now the administration is split. Pinkle is in support......

Or dies? Wait another week and back to practice.

It is what it is. Yank their scholarships, kick them out of school and kick them out of the SEC. There is no reason to do this to their fans and season ticket holders. The SEC does not need this kind of attention and the upcoming games are affected as well. These kids have a right to protest but they should find another way, without screwing up other innocent peoples plans.

laughable. "You can protest, but oh noes, now I can't watch football. You can't protest like this!"

If you don't agree with me you are a racist.

Precisely. Once I heard the demand for the college President to "admit his white privilege", I was done with this entire charade. If you guys don't believe me, Google the "list of demands" and see for yourself. I'd tell these hostage takers where to stick their list.

It seems not.
Until you understand that nothing, no matter how bad, said to a white person is not racist; until you understand how a racial slur uttered by a drunk to a third person is worth starving yourself to death; and until you understand that all the pot stirring, from Ferguson to Police brutality to the University of Missouri, is a ploy to stir the base for the upcoming election, you will not understand racism.

Per capita Rates are a deflection? You're hilarious.

Very much so. You want to talk about per capita when the simple fact is whites commit most crimes. The same thing with "black on black crime." The white on white crime rate is pretty much the same as black on black.

Who's talking about "white on white" or "black on Black?" I'm talking merely more likely to commit a crime. per Capita, Blacks in the country are more likely to commit a violent crime than whites are in this country. It's the cold, honest statistical truth and something that the left consistently tries to avoid by accusations of racism because their policies keep minorities dependent upon the govt and under their thumb.

The Democratic Party: The party of Slavery, Jim Crow, and the Government Plantation. The party that has, since its inception, relied on and exploited the dependency of minority men and women to further their political goals.

Yes, I am. So you're contending they actually believe that the college President being removed is somehow going to make a couple of people that allegedly made racist comments, all of the sudden turn into decent human beings? Perhaps I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, but I have a hard time believing they actually think the college President going is justifiable in the face of an alleged off-campus incident and another isolated incident. They are actually demanding the President acknowledge his "white privilege".......I mean, come on, this isn't about anything more than forced speech codes and punishing him for alleged incidents by others.

The only way they should be allowed to keep their scholarships is if they actually do feel firing him will remedy the problem.

I couldn't care less. I only speak the truth and I don't think I'm crossing any lines (nor am I seeking to) by speaking the truth. This is silly, these students AND student-athletes are being silly, and it's clear that this is just another way of phony and misplaced anger.

Anger arising from having a hot poker stabbed into the core of your dignity is neither phony nor misplaced. I wish VFL34 had gone public with the indignity he suffered at the restaurant in Knoxville. These are all glaring symptoms of serious social ills that many prefer to believe got healed and resolved in the 60's. They didn't! The longer we gloss over these things, the longer it will take for any resolution to come about.
(UM President is giving resignation speech at this moment.)

Ur right. We do. It doesn't make it ok that we say it either, because we are promoting it (edit to what makes more sense)I don't like the word at all. On the other hand when you call someone it in a derogatory way talking down to someone it hits harder. Especially when some calls you slave boy or after football u can pick my cotton n*gg*r. Now that is not ok. U won't get a job because your a n***er....some of the nicer bad things I have heard at my stadium and after LSU best us

You are absolutely correct. It shouldn't be used in those ways, nor any way. It's a derogatory term and should always be perceived as such.

What's he supposed to do? More speech codes? How about gunshots to the back of the neck for people that don't agree with the mob mentality or think differently than others? Universities are being held hostage by absolutist political correctness, and pardon me for saying it, but cultural Marxism. Either you think PRECISELY the way they want you to think, or you get labeled, you get that scarlet letter forced upon you.

Successful football and basketball programs funding Olympic sports seems to be the case at almost all D1 schools.

Not true at my school - USF. There are maybe 50 schools with huge athletic programs completely funded by the big sports. The rest of D1 athletic programs are in the red.
