Missouri Players Go On Strike (merged)

SJW Students: we want the statue of Thomas Jefferson to be removed from campus!

Administration: why?

SJW Students: because he was racist and we demand a safe space!

Administration: it was the 1700s. That was a pretty common world view at the time. Removing history doesn't change it and Thomas Jefferson is a very important figure not only for our country as a whole but for our state in particular.

SJW students: well you're a racist for not doing this! *starts a change.org petition and hashtag campaign*

That's how trying to have a rational discussion with the safe spacers turns out. Every single time.

Completely dismissive...

Why couldn't the school discuss the historical importance of Thomas Jefferson and then offer some sort of educational program to improve the future? Seems like there is a rather expansive range of ideas between being dismissive and tearing down a statue of one of the founding fathers.

Actually, these athletes are privileged and have a voice that many of the non-athlete students do not have. Considering how many other students have to struggle to get an education I would love to see these idiots walk. It would show their self endowed superiority.

We are asked to forgive them when they have failings and run ins with the law. Other students never get the same leniency.

how are they privileged? For working hard on the football field and earning a scholarship? Gtfoh. They are human like everyone else and simply using their position of power to influence the change they see needed.

What does this protest have to do with the law enforcement or anything else you mentioned?

Just heard on the radio that apparently all of Mizzou's black players are boycotting all football related activities until their president, Tim Wolfe, resigns. What the hell is going on up there?

Typical. Always trying to play the victim to extract "benefits" and sympathy from productive people.

You are correct. Republicans drove the Civil Rights movement. The Republican and Democrat parties today have basically switched though.

Switched on a few issues, sure. Not on all of their core philosophies.

Consider LBJ, the president who passed the CRA, who famously said, "I'll have those n*****s voting Democrat for 200 years." Does this strike you as altruism or political expediency?

Both sides are guilty of it. Democrats have always been populists - they've simply altered their message in response to a changing America.

The groups #1 demand is that the president stand in front of people at a press conference and admit to his "white male privelage".

Yeah, forgive me for not taking them seriously.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're ignorant of how this works. They aren't interested in the merits of who Thomas Jefferson was for the United states and his accomplishments. They just care that he was a white cis gendered, straight male who owned slaves in the 1700s and 1800s.

Edit: anything short of scrubbing Jefferson from their campus will be met with cries of racism or sexism.

This is going to ruin the university. Businesses won't want to be a part of this, recruits won't either for all of their sports. The town will suffer

Unless there is significant info that I have not read, the way these players are responding is over the top. I can see going social media and by making public what they did, but basically take high road saying they will not respond hate with hate or something that basically takes the high road.

Also, I have had problem with us just not all being AMERICANS, rather than being "pc" in saying "African American" and ANYONE using N word, I do not agree with the well "we can use it because it is in different way", is not helping imo. Both of these are examples of things that just divide us.

Follow your own advice. Nothing you said debunked anything that I said.

Comprehension ability
Get some.

You call liberals loony while you ignore historical facts. That was easy to comprehend. If you honestly believe that today's democrat party is the same as it was pre 1960's you are either ignorant or just willfully turning a blind eye to history to push your BS agenda.

I would agree that it starts very young when it comes to oppression of those who are poor or live in poor areas. Teachers don't want to work in poor areas. They are likely to receive less money. They feel less safe. It may be a hike for them to get to work. Then you have the influx of Teach for America teachers who are fresh out of college...that doesn't necessarily help. It brings in teachers, but it doesn't bring in great teachers who can help these people overcome issues as well as others could. Poor kids' life trajectories are affected by where they grow up because of the level of education they are able to get. I fail to believe that you can get the same kind of teachers at Houston or Collierville that you can get at East or Whitehaven.

Teachers who work in poorer, less stable schools are often paid more. My mom taught elementary school in FL in a "normal environment" and made $50k a year. One of my coworkers' wife teaches elementary school in FL in a low income school and rakes in close to $90k.

What is inaccurate about his description?

It is NOT a traitor's flag. Under the 10th amendment any state had the right to secede. Lincoln affirmed this but said not on his watch. Northern states wouldn't have signed off on the Constitution if it weren't for this amendment. Obama don't care about state rights and the liberal supreme(in name only) court is too busy kissing Hussein's hiney!!!!! Come to the reenactment of the Battle for Blountville next year. We're in upper east Tennessee!!

Crazies are running the asylum. Since when do subordinates have a president fired because they don't like the way he handles things? It's crazy. Should the CEO of the company you work for get fired because a few employees don't like the way he handles problems? The new narrative in the US. Sickening.

By the way, trying to debate a liberal, socialist, progressive, or Democrat (they are all the same now) in anything is futile because they lack intellectual honesty.

Because institutions of higher learning are bastions of liberalism. The liberals hate TJ for all the reasons being stated. He was a racist slave owner. Doesn't matter that he was a founding father of this country. Besides, don't we have a president now that is ashamed of this very same country?

What's a compromise?

Erase history?

History teaches us the mistakes of the past and we can improve the future by studying history

In a republic, which we are supposed to be, the majority can't trample the rights of the individual, no matter how much they don't like what they hear or see.

In this case, I don't think you can. It's either a matter of keeping the statue or don't. You keep the statue and the indoctrinated students who are trained to see racism and sexism in everything will levy those accusations. Capitulate and they will move on to the next thing to be outraged about.

Give an inch, take a mile

They want to get rid of the Thomas Jefferson statue? Do they realize there is a huge memorial to TJ in DC? Do they realize he founded UVA? If UVA doesn't have a problem w/ TJ, Mizzu shouldn't either

They didn't have the right to invade United States military installations and kill US troops. Those acts of treason started the war. They left the United States and fought against the United States. Traitors. No other way to spin it. East Tennesseans agreed.
