Missouri Players Go On Strike (merged)

My understanding is the white players will not play either. So, pull all the players scholarships that refuse to hold up their obligations.

Okay but sorry you can't strike when your scholarship is given to you. You either play or leave the school and protest as a non athletic student paying for college.

Also if you don't play you will owe UT about a $1 million for TV losses and game.

Seems like a few isolated incidents have "Jesse Jacksoned" COMO. 2 drunk rednecks (need to be flogged), and somebody scrawling a swastika out of their own feces. Anybody that paints with their own **** has more problems than being a racist. Looking at the timeline of events

Racial climate at MU: A timeline of incidents to date this fall | Higher Education | columbiamissourian.com

I think everybody involved needs some diversity training. A group naming themselves around an event that happened 65 years ago is living in the past. A group naming themselves the Black Coalition is also playing the race card. None of this is right.

They're having a bad season, the weather is pretty bad this time of year, and they pick NOW to do this? Lol not the brightest bulb in the lamp leading this effort. If I'm Pinkel I tell the administration we write off 2015 in support of the players. Lol

Let them walk! I would say the same thing if it was happening at UT. Does anyone know what their grievance is and why they are asking for this mans job.

I'm assuming this will be moved to the Politics forum on here eventually, but those attempting to shove this under the rug like it's nothing are silly. Go read their student president's posts from the last few days, these don't seem like isolated incidents. It's very concerning and very sad to know that this likely goes on at every school.

Exactly, this is being blown way out of proportion. Does racism still exist? Yes it does and its ignorant, is it as bad as it was during the 50s and 60s? Hell no and its not even close, we are talking about a school who welcomed and celebrate the first openly gay BLACK NFL player and they still take pride in that. Racism goes both ways (see Louis Farrakhan and his followers) theres always going to be a few idiots in the world who are extreme but the best way to combat that is to not let them get in the way of your every day life. Im sorry that a few ignorant people said somethings to those of color at Mizzou but this is childish. There is no possible way for Mr. Wolf to stop the few idiots who exist in Columbia unless he were to make it a historically black college. Even then your going to have idiots passing through campus. My advice to the Mizzou football teams if your struggling with name calling at the age of 20 your in for a rude awakening once you've graduated and moved on, get thicker skin and show the world this has no effect on your life.

My understanding is there have been "multiple" incidents where people have been called the N word. And one incident where some wrote the nazi symbol on a bathroom stall with crap in a brand new building. And they have gone to Mr. Wolf about these matters and I guess his actions or lack thereof have caused the strike. Another student is on a hunger strike until he is removed, what I dont understand is what exactly the expect him to do? Unless he catches someone red handed its all he said she said and that doesn't hold up in court, then mizzou would face law suit after said person is found innocent due to lack of evidence. So its a damned if you do damned if you don't situation for Mr. Wolf.

From what I understand (which, as the rest of us, is next to nothing unless you are near Columbia), a big reason for being upset is Wolfe's five or so days of inaction without a statement one way or the other on the events, which is a long time for someone that's slowly killing themselves.

But like...what if he really is a problem? I mean, it's clear that you have already decided that he isn't. But like...what if? What if this group of students are actually correct in saying that he hasn't handled multiple situations of hatred on his campus appropriately and timely?

Come on, this kind of minority victimization is eroding society. It's a stunt designed to get something for nothing. The crazy thing is these guys are already getting something for nothing in the form of a free education. How about they use the opportunity to become a civil rights attorney and seek justice pro bono if they're so pure of heart??

Best post in this whole thread asked if they would be so moved if the team was 9-0? Good question.
