Anyone think he has just decided to rest up and get ready for the draft knowing he's had so much trouble staying healthy and will just test his luck while he can?

Not saying that is the smart thing to do, just wonder if anyone else gets a vibe that could be happening?

I would say no chance. I don't see him getting drafted based on the production he has had. I would think his best hope is to get healthy and have a monster Senior year.

I agree, but you make it sound like there is something wrong with that. Pressure just goes with the territory when you have high expectations. Some of it was definitely unwarranted this year in the preseason, but next year I don't see it as a bad thing. Hope Jones will be able to prepare for it.

I didn't mean to make it sound negative, necessarily. At Tennessee, pressure is absolutely there 100% of the time. I don't EVER feel bad for a coach here.

However, it can bring down good coaches who don't prepare for it, as you say. Hope Jones can pull it off, because this year the pressure got to him, imo.

Here's how its going to happen:

We win the rest of our regular season games.

We win our bowl game against a decent opponent and finish 9-4.

In January, our fans will be calling for 10-2 with some fringe people saying "We have an outside shot at the national title." "We will win the east." "No excuse not to win the East." etc etc etc

Signing day we have a top 10-12 class, momentum builds.

Around late July/early August, some national pundits will pick us to win the East, some will even pick us to win the SEC. A couple pundits will call us "darkhorse playoff contenders."

In August, much of our fanbase says 11-1/12-0 is realistic. Some hold out for 10-2/9-3. The entire fanbase expects to being playing in the SECCG.

September hits and it's a dang pressure cooker before a game is even played.

Book it.

I could see that happening, Just beat Florida and win at least one of Texas A&M, Georgia, and Bama.

The rest of the schedule Tennessee should be heavily favored.

The SEC is a pressure cooker. That's just the way it is. Good teams expect to compete for championships. That's why those Top 10 classes come to programs that expect to win. We want to foster high expectations, because that's what breeds success.

And, yes, I expect UT to beat UF, win the SECE next year and play in the SECCG.

I think the roster will be close to "bulletproof" next year. Where are the weaknesses? CB position opposite Martin, perhaps. But I think Moseley still has potential to improve, and we add Osborne. Abernathy will be better in 2016. Gaulden's presence will make it less of an issue as well.

LT is a question mark, but we have a 5* with a year of development in the wings.

Safety will have some question marks, but if we land Warrior and Jennings moves there, we are set.

Medley won't have a slump two years in a row, so the kicker position will be set.

I think the biggest need for the 2016 team is making sure JRM doesn't head to the draft. We desperately need him to stick around for his senior year.

The Kentucky game participation report is jacked up. Ashford isn't on there, but I've confirmed he held for the 44-yarder at the least. I thought maybe he was hurt at first.

There are very few names on there considering what I thought was a pretty empty bench. Bates, Blair, Jones, Crowder, Giampapa, Jumper--none of those were on there. Didn't someone say they saw Picou out there.

This is frustrating. Well, for me it is anyway.

My first game as well!

Sometime in the 2nd quarter I got distracted by their dopey kangaroo mascot goofing around, that was when my dad and papaw decided I had been there long enough.

That 1st quarter was enough for a lifetime addiction though.

9-4 with a bowl win against a ranked team might. But 8-4 alone is not worthy.

I was as down on the coaching staff as anyone following the Oklahoma, Florida, and Arky games. But the facts are:

1. Cooler heads will make this decision at the end of the season based on overall record/performance.
2. 8-4 is a 2 game improvement over last year.
3. There's a good chance that 8-4 will end up being good enough for 2nd in the East and somewhere middle of the pack for the conference.
4. Jones gets paid 3rd from the bottom in SEC. That would not reflect performance if we win out.
5. The AD could garner the reputation of not rewarding progress and that could prove very detrimental going forward.

Bottom line: whether some feel it's warranted or not, the market may dictate a raise/extension.

EDIT: And it would be possible to do it right without going full Hamilton.

Moseley can 100% improve. People acting like he's done are jumping the gun. Will he start over Martin? Nope, but can he be a reliable DB? Yep. Think about the CBs we've run out there:

Art Evans
Prentiss Waggner
Marsalis Teague
Jaron Toney
Izauea Lanier

@RyanCooperOSU: An Ohio State spokesman said that J.T. Barrett's summer aid is what has been taken away, not his fall or spring tuition.

Now it's getting comical

I think you're right. It did get to him early on. But I think he learned how to better deal with it as the season went on. He kept the team close knit and they maintained their quiet confidence behind closed doors.

You never want your head coach to be "learning on the job". But you really always want your head coach learning on the job. If that makes sense... The failures this year could be what Butch needed to see what works and what doesn't. This was his first real season with pressure. He didn't handle it well early, but tuned out the negativity and barreled ahead anyways and has his team playing better every week.

Hopefully he takes this experience and chalks it up as valuable data and learns how to keep himself centered in the face of the big moments that lie ahead for this program.

I believe in him.

The pressure may have gotten to him, but he responded very well. If we had lost to UGA, it would have been miserable. To think, we were down 24-3.

All I can say is that players will play hard for Butch Jones. It has happened every single year while he has been here. You can criticize his gameday coaching, but that trait is invaluable, especially when pressure is put on the program to produce.

Well the Knoxville QB club luncheon was a little disappointing. John Cooper (who happens to be my second cousin) is a very nice guy. Hadn't seen him in several years, probably since his mother's funeral 15-20 years ago. His speech was all Buckeye. Got nauseating at times. Gave the Vols little or know props. Talked about Urban Meyer as if he was a God. Said he and Nick Saban were the two best coaches in college football. Here's a few highlights:

Best stadium in America: OSU
Best game day pageantry: OSU
Top Coaching Jobs: 1. USC, 2. Texas, 3. OSU, 4. Alabama, 5. LSU. Did say UT was a top ten job.
Best facilities: OSU, Laughed when he said they had multiple strength coaches and even a nutrutionist. Also said they were on the cutting edge of technology because their players had trackers in their jerseys. (LOL)

Johnny Majors was there and of course he had to chime in saying that Tennessee was not a top ten job. Said that LSU,FL,GA,AL were all better than Tennessee. He needs to limit his public commentary IMO.

Best part of the gig was Coach Gillespie. He talked about all the running backs and took questions. Someone asked him about Fils-Aime and he he said he couldn't talk about commitments. He did say he loved really good running backs though which got a big laugh.

They also honored Anthony Hancock. Talked to him, he's a nice dude.

Evans had a stint in the league, but point stands. We are much much better at CB under Butch.

LT is a weakness going in.

OLB opposite JRM is a weakness going in.

S opposite TKjr (but not much - Evan will be fine)

K

CB opporsite Martin

NB (I think Gaulden will be fine)

RG and RT (should be fine)

WR (still need lots of growth but should be fine)

Blair played. Isn't Picou redshirting?

Coleman Thomas. He doesn't get enough praise.

He has been a stud out there this year.

And to think...people were criticizing the staff for putting him out there. He certainly had some rough outings last year at tackle, but obviously, the staff felt he was one of the best 5 to send him out there. It is clear what they saw in him.

We're Tennessee.

There SHOULD be pressure on our head coach to win the aSEC EAST Every year

Not sure what you mean by pressure. Should he lose his job if he finishes 2nd in the East the next 3 seasons (including this season, in which we will finish 2nd in the East)?

The expectation should be to compete for the East title every season. Florida and Georgia should have the same expectation. Realistically, Florida, Tennessee and Georgia should be alternating the East crown between themselves every season.

Blair played. Isn't Picou redshirting?

I though Picou was redshirting, but I seem to recall someone talking about him being in the game.

Those other guys should be on there. Utsports.com is usually good with their reports. This spoiled fan is annoyed.

I definitely would hate to lose JRM going into next year.

But we have some untapped potential waiting behind him who have been improving every year.

I still feel like Cortez McDowell, Dillon Bates and
Gavin Bryant will all contribute a great deal at LB before they go. All will be in year 3.

They are all certainly unknowns. But all 3 have made big plays on special teams and look stronger than they were when they got here. Truthfully I just think JRM has been too good to take off the field.

Next year will be special if he stays though. No doubt about it. I bet he knows that.

I think he stays and Cam goes.

IF we win the last 4 games by an average of 21pts+ do you all think we will be ranked before the bowl at 8-4? I certainly think we will.

If we win the bowl we 100% will be, just trying to decide if it will take till after a possible bowl win or not.

Really would like to finish the season ranked for the first time since 2007.

If we finish 9-4 we'll be ranked 15-20 in the final AP poll. And be a top 10 team in the 2016 preseason polls.
