It's funny that after UT goes 8-4 the losers on here will post over and over about "Butch didn't win any big games. Couldn't close those out. Blah blah blah." This will be their negative loser talking point. Yet, most of them predicted 7-5 or 6-6 record this fall. LOL

The spin about how UGA, UK, Mizzou, Vandy, and USC are terrible and that we didn't beat anyone of consequence will also be referenced on a daily basis somewhere on VN.

And if we beat a good team in a bowl it will be because they had a letdown season and didn't care about being there.

I think the win column is supposed to look like that if we are going to compete for the East.

It was like the people predicting we were gonna get skull-dragged by Alabama showing up after the game to mock people for "moral victory" talk. Yeah, we lost, but you didn't even believe the team would compete, so shut up.

Exactly.

The fact is this team has been decimated with key injuries all over the field but it's still competing at a high level. Depth. It's not all the way there yet but it's light years ahead of when Butch took over. And after this recruiting class it will be just about there.

8-4 regular season, make a really good bowl, beat a really good opponent and close out the '16 class STRONG. That's the objective and very attainable. Yeah it sucks how we lost a few of our games this fall but it's clear our team, and especially the coaches, have learned from those mistakes and made adjustments. Vols are going to win 10+ the next few years. Those paying attention can see it.

Best are the ones saying that Kentucky was a definite loss a few weeks and now act like it was a FCS team that just got demolished.

I also think it's important not to lose sight of just how resilient this bunch has been. I, like many others, gave up on the staff (but not the team!) after the UF game, and I was clearly wrong. It wasn't that we had lost to OU and UF, it was how it happened...devastating gut punches where we gave it away to teams I thought we were better than. I believed Jones and company were stubborn and would refuse to make the changes we needed to make, but they proved that my concerns were unfounded. It would have been easy, and expected in the years before Butch got here, to fold after the Arkansas game and pack it in.

They didn't do that. Down 24-3 against Georgia they battled back and found a way to win, which was desperately needed. They went on the road against a top-10 Alabama team, and even while the Vols played two true freshmen on the OL and with some key injuries throughout, they played hard and our staff arguably outcoached Saban's bunch. Yes, we lost, and that's ultimately what matters, but it was clear that the team believed they could and would win, and they played like they knew it. They played like they weren't afraid of Alabama, and that's certainly improvement given that the Tide have been the class of college football for the better part of the last decade.

Then, last night, again some bad breaks early. No panic, no flinching; the Vols kept going to work and were rewarded with a blowout victory.

The culture change between this team and, say, the 2011 team is night and freaking day. I was wrong about Butch Jones and the other coaches. I don't know if they'll get us to a national title or an SEC title, but damn does it feel good to see a team that fights and competes, week in and week out, no matter what. That is going to pay off in big, big ways.

I consider uga a big-time win, especially for recruiting. The close call against bama was the best you could ask for IMO. Go 8-4 and win bowl game and the off season momentum will be very positive for this team. 16' is gonna b fun.

Good freaking grief. All we have heard is Dobbs cant throw it downfield. And when he makes a beautiful throw for a 75 yard bomb, it has to be luck? Dobbs inaccuracy? Maybe you should go and compare Dobbs completion % against UK to that of Paxton Lynch's against Tulane :eek:lol:.

Dobbs just cannot win with some of this fan base. I mean the guy is one of the most electric QBs in the country with the ball in his hands and he gets more respect and admiration from the media than some Tennessee fans. Sad.

He will always get this kind of criticism as long as he's here unless he becomes much more consistent. I've been as critical of Dobbs' deficiencies as anybody, but last night made me change my mind about some of my critiques.

Dobbs proved that he CAN make all the throws last night and that he CAN complete clutch passes. However, he also showed that he has a long way to go to consistently making those throws.

Not sure you why you feel the need to call out the negative posters now when you yourself said you were done with cbj just a few weeks ago. Pretty funny

Little disgusted by the targeting penalty last night. I don't have a problem with the flag being thrown, the problem I have is that a bean bag wasn't thrown at the same time. Then they compounded it by not correcting the call on the replay. If your going to cost a player his playing time, then there should be an additional review after the game. It was clear the intent was not malicious, in fact, he did everything he could to not hit him in the head. I know this isn't CBJ's style, but this is one time I think he should call the refs out despite the fine. Besides making a point about the bad call, it would show that he wants the players to stay aggressive and he has their backs. JMO.

What quarter and minute was that penalty?

That's all I've been trying to tell you. Just remember Dobbs is a true junior. Most QBs redshirt and then sit another 2 years. Dak Prescott for as great as he is right now, was a backup to start his 3rd year. Only became a national figure in his 4th year as a redshirt junior. And really only became a consistent passer this year as a redshirt senior.

Expects Dobbs to get more consistent after an entire season as the starter and a second off-season getting all the first team reps.

We're starting two frosh and two other guys out of position on the line. Dobbs is gonna be under duress. That 75 yard TD the pocket was milliseconds from caving in.

JMO. As painful as those close losses were that occurred this season while Butch still had a lot of support from the university, media and fan base - it all could turn out to be a blessing in disguise over the long term. It forced him to get much more involved in the under performing units such as the receivers and O-line with Debord as the trusted implementer - which put the assistant coaches and players on notice. It forced him to consider the inadequate aspects of his offensive system/play calling. Finally, he had to take a hard look at himself in the mirror when it comes to game plans, adjustments and in-game decisions. Nothing but improvement in all aspects over the past month. From being ridiculed nationally to earning his stripes with the big boys. Great story of redemption. Hope he continues down this path and keeps growing in his role. It will mean great things for the program and fans everywhere.

No, eventually the stupidity around here just gets to be too much and I (unwisely) decide to wade into the mire.

Back to lurk mode.
