Ideal thing for me.

Win out but get beat by a superior team in a bowl game.

Remember many players and coaches credit the Nebraska bowl game as the reason we won the NC.

If we win out in the regular season losing a bowl game wouldn't really hurt much IMO and would help for reason above IMO

Agreed with you on game planning but I never want the Vols to lose.

What a freaking joke

We've covered DeAngelo Williams and Cameron Heyward's battle with the NFL over the Pittsburgh Steelers teammates' crusade against cancer in great detail in this space, and last we heard the parties seemed to have an understanding with the league over what players can and cannot do to raise cancer awareness.

As with many things in the NFL, though, a handshake agreement isn't worth much.

"We will find a cure" and the breast cancer ribbon were printed on DeAngelo Williams' eyeblack this month. The NFL just fined him $5757

According to the NFL Network's Aditi Kinkhabwala, Williams' eye black featured "We will find a cure" and the breast cancer ribbon during breast cancer awareness month, and the league fined him $5,757 for supporting a cause near and dear to his heart. Earlier in October, the NFL denied Williams' request to wear pink all season in hopes of continuing to raise awareness about a disease that took his mother in May 2014.

Oh, it gets more bizarre. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Williams hasn't just been wearing "find the cure" eye black this October; he's been sporting it for going on five years now, and this marks his first fine. Ironically, his first fine for raising breast cancer awareness comes during breast cancer awareness month.

Of course, the NFL also fined Heyward twice this month for writing "IRON" and "HEAD" on his eye black in honor of his father, Craig "Ironhead" Heyward, who died from brain cancer at age 39 in 2006, so maybe the league was just trying to keep its terribly insensitive uniform policy consistent with respect to Williams.

I think you're taking him more literally than it was intended. The point was that he wants the team pissed off and hungry going into next season.

JMO.

That's what January through August is for.

That's why coaches get paid $4 million.

Hypothetically, if my team can't be pissed off for greatness simply because we went 9-4, with all of those 4 being winnable games, then no loss to "Perrenial Power University" is going to help.

Honestly, I was just being a d!ck.

Correct

No shot I am pulling for a loss. However if it happens it would be pretty much a meaningless game anyway if we were 8-4 beforehand. Then it might propel a huge offseason just like 1997 did

I have one of those too.

SEC Bowl Game Assignments (in order of most desirable, IMO)-

Playoff Semifinal
Sugar Bowl
CFA Peach Bowl
Outback Bowl
Music City Bowl
Belk Bowl
Liberty Bowl
Citrus Bowl
Taxslayer Bowl
Texas Bowl
Birmingham Bowl
Independence Bowl

Right now, I'd guess we'd be in Belk or Liberty Bowl (somewhere behind Bama, LSU, UGA, FL, & Ole Miss).

However, I see very little chance that the SEC has 12 teams go to a bowl game. Will be a curious last few weeks, as there's a chance that all of Mizzou, S.Carolina, Vandy, Auburn, & even Arkansas & Kentucky miss a bowl.

I get the concept, but personally I think this team needs confidence more than hunger. I think they already have the hunger. I want them to see their hard work start paying off, and a bowl win over a solid team would be a great example of that.

We won't be behind UGA. That team is going to lose more games still. If we finish 2nd in the East, I think we'll be in the Outback or Music City. Especially considering how hungry our fan base is and how well we travel (see last year's bowl).
