I watched the video and the author is full of crap. She isn't punching or kicking. She is attempting to remain seated and struggling against him. She is wrong, but to say that she kicked her desk over is just dumb. He is the one that lifted her and slammed her over. There is just no need for that kind of force for a non violent non threatening situation.

This.

It's the same type of "breakdown" where sites like this tried to justify the Walter Scott shooting in SC.

The racial part there's no evidence.

But that's not all he said, he said the blame is all on the student and the officer did nothing wrong, and that yes I think is untrue.

I agree his actions were way, way, way out of line. But this does not appear racially motivated as plenty of people are claiming.

We as a society are far too quick to jump on that racial hatred bandwagon. And yes, it does get annoying.

I'm not necessarily speaking to this incident or any in particular, but one wonders if there will eventually come a time when no one is willing to be a law enforcement officer anymore with the constant media attention and scrutiny that is brought to so many incidents around the country, particularly when a black victim/"victim" is involved.

You couldn't pay me enough money to deal with all that mess.

I’m not saying this cop was right, but I certainly don’t think he can be unilaterally condemned from a 15 second clip.

Here’s the thing, the cop may be wrong. I fully acknowledge that (just like when I thought the cop was wrong in Eric Garner’s case). But he can also be wrong, without this necessarily being a race issue. He could just be a hot-headed cop. Of course, not only do we not have time to wait for facts to come in before GRRR RAGE, we don’t have time for people who simply say wait for the facts to come in…

Couple more

Maybe from now on, the schools should just call the kids parents. Have them come get their kid and expel their asses for the remainder of the year.

I don't think race has anything to do with it; even if it did, it doesn't matter that much to me because I think his actions were wrong either way.

But some of it is cause and effect. One can argue the media attention and scrutiny increased because of the perception and sometimes reality that cops got away with things because there was a lack of scrutiny.

It can and has tipped too far the other way, but the problem is finding the balance.

To me this is an example of the problems with both "sides". One side is rushing to make this racial, but the other side is trying way too hard to completely justify the officer's actions.

I don't think that this is a racial issue. I think it is a training issue. Cops get trained on the art of the beat down, but very little in the way of diffusing situations without violence. BTW, without more information, I don't see anything that this cop did that merited firing. Discipline and retraining? Sure, but to lose his career seems pretty heavy handed.

I would force the parents to leave work to come get the little ****. Let the parents beat the hell out of them.

That's the problem now.....parents don't care or want to take the time to teach their children to show respect to the officials that are in charge. Kids want to be tough & spit in the face of people who are in charge over them. They want their buddies to respect them for doing so.

This is a prime example of misuse of police resources. The teachers and school administrators are paid to deal with this type of issue. The kid got caught using her cell phone in class and refused the teacher's request to give up her phone. She refused to leave the class. This should never be a criminal offense.

The cop was wrong in how he handled it, but he never should have been required to be involved here.

Could be seen as a setup for the cop. Students record everything that happens in school these days. Tape the cop & then take it to the news station.

Can't quite go with the setup angle. Cameras or no cameras, he should have never used this type of force.

My point is he should never have been called into the classroom in the first place.

I was taught to only respect those who earn it. Should I reproduce, I'll pass on that same MO to my offspring. Sure, you won't be liked by everyone, but at least you can say you have a pair of balls at the end of the day and that you always stood for what you felt was right. Why placate people because of made up titles and roles? So you don't get slammed to the ground? Seriously?
