I'm expecting Jalen Hurd to really break out in these last 5 games. He almost had 100 yards rushing against Bama. The talent level in these last 5 games drops considerably, he should have no problem getting over 1000 yards.

1000 yards in 5 games? That's extremely optimistic.

Cubs fan laughs at your assertion of cosmic justice in sports.

Cosmic justice may not be a thing, but regression to the mean is. It's true the Cubs have certainly had a rough go of things, but they haven't been either far above or far below where we would expect them to be based on prior performance. Tennessee, meanwhile, has been well below what we would expect based on average performance for the last several years. The Vols didn't become a top ten winningest program by accident.

It's not a matter of being "due." It's a matter of mathematics. SCIENCE!

Soon....

Sark is gone. Dude needs help. As for Tee,if I remember correctly, the wife seems to have a lot with him staying out west. But, well see soon enough.

No way of knowing who USC will hire or whether they will want Martin or not. Martin is one of the top recruiters in the nation so you would think he would be a lock but you never know. Also do not know how Martin will like working for whoever they hire. IF the decision was as close as VFL34 suggested, it could get pushed over the top by wanting to coach his kid in college. In my mind, Martin has more job security at UT than he does at USC.

God knows that I hope you are right...I see things like Auburn's 2013 UGA and Alabama games, Michigan St. a couple weeks ago, GT last weekend, and sit there and wonder when we'll get to experience that type of exhilaration.

All I'm saying is that history does not give us a birthright to a successful program. The AD, coaches, players, support staff, etc. have to make it happen. I think we're on the right track, but does the fact that we're an all-time top 10 program give us a significantly higher probability of reaching that level again? I'm not sure it does, but hope like hell that I'm wrong and that we'll reach the top of the mountain again regardless of what our coaches and players do.

We will run it all over Kentucky. We have the speed to get to the edge and we should be able to run it up the middle as well.

Elam is in piss poor football shape and gets stood up at the line of scrimmage constantly.

I think he meant 1000 yards on the season. Hurd is mid 600s right now

Hurd has 664 currently.

Travis Stephens' single season rushing record is 1464.

Hurd needs 800 yards over the final 5 games (average 160 per game) to tie Stephens record.

I don't doubt that Hurd could do it. I believe that we may blow out a few of these teams so much that Hurd doesn't get enough carries.

Any thoughts on Hurd approaching Stephens' record?

Not this season. I dont expect him to play much vs North Texas.

You're right that history alone guarantees nothing. I'm just saying that our history is a good indicator of our ability to achieve those things you said: a top-to-bottom athletic organization that makes those things happen. Colorado is often brought up as a cautionary tale of what can happen when a great program falters; but CU is not all that impressive historically. They had good success in the late 80s and 90s and not much else. That isn't the case at Tennessee. Sustained excellence is a powerful predictor of future success.

There are no guarantees, but there are predictors.

We as Vol fans know this, but people need to take a hard look at the profound mix of factors that led us to this point. Historically bad levels of mismanagement and incompetence will do damage to any program -- see LSU from 1989-1999 or so. A program with tremendous historical success that was, for the better part of a decade, a laughingstock and a footnote in the college football world.

And I'm with you -- I want that exhilaration. We finally got a little against Georgia a couple of weeks ago and it just left us wanting more. But it's coming -- keep the faith.

Believe and GO VOLS!

I've been beyond amused at the huge numbers of people denying that Saturdays game was a moral victory. Of course it was and VN and those around the program are largely celebrating it. Would it have been better if we had actually won? No doubt but in the absence of actually winning we do have a moral victory and to blatantly claim otherwise I think is akin to saying, "I did not have sex with that woman."

That said, however, obviously there are a few Debbie-downer posters here and elsewhere that, as you suggest, haven't figured out how to thoroughly enjoy a bona fide moral victory. :)

I guess CBJ is a Debbie Downer then. After the Bama loss, he espoused the very thoughts that get posters slammed on VN:

"This was not a moral victory. There are no moral victories at Tennessee."

"We do not celebrate losses. We want to win."

"There are no good losses. Our players expect to win."

So not everybody is celebrating the L.

All I know is, *IF* we play like we did against Bama...

1) We are going 9-4.

2) The hype will be like last year, but even more so.

3) Likely finish around 10th in recruiting (due to smaller class size)

4) Preseason top 15

5) ???

6) Profit

At some point, the coaches will probably start giving Kelly more PT, which will reduce Hurd's carries. OTOH, Hurd will probably break more big runs against weaker competition and increase his YPC for the back half of the season. He could break TS' record, but that's a lot of yrds over the next five games and he doesn't need that much wear and tear on his body.

Liked for the profit.

Haha, what's #5 for?

Florida isn't losing to Vandy and Carolina. That just isn't possible. I'd rather UF beat UGA and throw some gasoline on that dumpster in Athens. We have a lot of recruits that we're head to head with UGA for.

They don't have to lose to both if they lose to UGA. This has been hashed out but division record comes before west opponents in the new tie breaker scenario

If Florida loses to UGA and ONE of South Carolina or Vandy and UGA then loses one other conference game then with us winning out there is a three way tie.

If UGA's loss is to Auburn Florida would be first eliminated in above scenario with a 2 loss division record and us and UGA a one loss division record. It would then go to US vs UGA head to head and we advance

If UGA's loss is to Kentucky both Florida and UGA are elimated with 2 loss eastern division record and UT advances with only one eastern division loss.

Probably less than a 1% chance it happens but as long as its out there we have to root for UGA this weekend. It will keep us in the east race talk until Nov 14th

Let's play the what if game.

What if both sutton and JRM return for their senior seasons???

I don't think JRM leaves. He needs another year like the year he's having right now. Sutton would be smart to leave this year. He's a 1st or 2nd round pick.
