Why Is Florida A Must Win For Butch?

Honestly OP, I don't know if it is for Dave Hart but for keeping the fanbase, it holds much weight. It may be perception but it's real for those that feel that way.
A win would give him a huge amount of stock with almost all the fans. (except the "we didn't win by enough" crowd) A loss adds doubt into the minds of his supporters.
Either way, he's here next year but the fanbase would be much more tolerable with a win.

My day would be much brighter also.

IMO the big three are FL, GA, and AL. FL is the most vulnerable. If we don't win vs them and then proceed to lose to GA and AL the TN family will become divided once again.

At this point, it would take a downward trend over a couple of years, if not longer, before a coaching change would even be considered. Regardless of any short term slump in attendance. In fact, Jones would probably bail for greener pastures before it would or even could happen.

As long as he keeps throwing up top 5 recruiting classes he is not going anywhere unless someone hires him away. This gives him more time in my opinion plus the program could not stand another coaching change for 2 or 3 more years. He needs to get attrition under control and learn how to win football games at this level. Florida means noting in the scheme of things.

I look at it kinda of the opposite. If he continues to sign top 5 classes and cant win big it should tell you all you need to know.

On the flip side, at some point in the near future those top 5 classes are gonna getting substantially hard to near impossible to pull with out sommething to sell in return.

If this roster loses 4 games next year he should be terminated or I'll use my season ticket money to hire the moving van and send it to Hart's office. We'll have a top 10 AT MINIMUM roster next year; no excuse not to win 10.

If Jones starts going backwards or even flattens out in the W/L column his best bet for "greener" is his buyout.

It isn't a must win

The term "must win" is about the most misused and stupid expression that I've heard. "Must Win" or what? Fired, make a bowl, win the East, make the playoff, break the streak ... keep from "pissing me off"? Must win or what?

This game aint a "must win" in the sense of anything colossal. Technically, we could lose this game and still win the east, win the SEC, and make the playoff if the chips fell properly.

In other words, stop the bullcrap! Let's go kick UFs arses and take names, because we have a good shot. If we fail, take a few days of VN, because you won't wanna be here.

The only "must" in must win in this game is ... we "must win" or this board is going to be filled with the highest concentration of crap slinging crybabies that the 1st World has ever seen. That's all.

You serious Clark? You normally post solid stuff, but c'mon man.

A lot of crap can happen in a season to cause 4 losses. This is the SEC. Plus, the only reason "we" are calling for 10 wins minimum is because of our staff's ability to convince back2back recruiting classes to join a dumpster fire. This is the same overachieving staff that would be fired in your scenario. You would be firing the staff the brought in all the hope which created the outrageous expectations, which led to their firing.

10 wins or disappointment = Yes.
10 wins or yet another coaching search = @$^%$#$ NO!!!

Before this season started, I staunchly disagreed that UF was a must win game. I have changed my mind. Its an absolutely must win game. Why? Because if Butch wants to move forward as our coach, he has to show he can win big games. This is a HUGE game now that we lost a pathetic game to OU. Had we won that game convincingly like we should have, then this game wouldnt be quite as important. Also, Butch has to show his coaching abilities can be successful against the big boys in the SEC.

Common sense not allowed in here

Bolt to where? Several seasons barely above .500 usually doesn't mean multiple AD's of big time programs in the power 5 come swooning CBJ.

What would our record be if we played Florida schedule? What would be Florida record if they played ours? I'm just saying who does everyone think has the better team?

I'd be firing the staff who brought in talent and replacing them with someone who can develop and coach that talent to wins. When is 4 losses not acceptable in your book? You seem to think it's acceptable for a top 5-10 roster to underachieve that bad. People on here like to make fun of Richt for "underachieving" despite his talent, for averaging 10 wins per year. Yet 8-4 is considered ok? Guess I'm poor at seeing the logic in that.

He loses to Florida...I agree he will not lose his job...but he will lose a lot of Volnation...and u lose them...the rest of your year and into year 4 makes things a lot tougher.

I think we win, I agree we should win but I do think its crazy and ridiculous that after 1 loss he has lost so many from volnation and that if he loses another he could lose even more.

At this point there was more support for Dooley, Butch loves UT and has worked hard to improve the entire program from GPA to recruiting and more and in my opinion for this many people to be jumping ship this quick its embarrassing as a fan.

Avg 247 rankings last 4 years

UF: 10
UT: 13.25

OK 13.5

Draw whatever you want from that but it's reality. I'm not making excuses for Butch because I think UF is put up or shut up time. I doubt UF keeps recruiting like last year to drop their avg too much and they are playing below a 10 ranking except on D.

Who cares about 24/7 ratings? We have more talent. Period. We a better team on paper. But we have bad coaching

To me its absolutely a must win. Butch has recruited very well, but its about at the point where hes going to have to win some games to keep getting elite recruits.
Because in all honesty, butch has blown a few games in similar fashion. Uf last year and now oklahoma.

Its also huge from a pressure standpoint. Butch finally started to hear it after blowing it against ou. He loses to this florida team and the fanbase is really gonna start to wonder.

Butch has enough talent to win this game. If hes the guy to turn us around, its time to show it. No more excuses.

A 1-17 career record against ranked teams and a 0-6 record at UT against our three primary rivals (UF, Bama and UGA) is a horrendous record. CBJ has dropped two winnable UF games, including last year's low-point-of-his-career loss, and he needs to prove that he can coach as well as recruit. It's Year 3-- time to beat a rival, and UF is the most beatable one. Absolutely, it's a must-win.

It's a must-win for Florida.

Florida has fired a coach who went undefeated vs UT. We on the other hand are willing to give a pass to second coach in the row to lose to them 3 years in the row? Against as bad a UF team they have had in a while and in year 1 of their own rebuilding some of our fans are still looking for excuses to lose to them?

This fanbase has seen what a rival SEC coach has done in 3 years @ Oxford. Improvement was there every year. Those that support UT want the same or some what similar results here. Can you blame them?
