Are people going crazy because they think Oklahoma is a 8-5 football team?

I don't think Florida is good.

My point was the same logic one can use to conclude that Florida isn't good can also be used to argue Oklahoma is not a playoff team.

I don't think Florida is good either, they weren't good the last two years, but that didn't stop them from beating UT.

I expect the Gators to beat UT if the same team that shows up in the fourth quater shows up in Gainesville in a few weeks. On the other hand, if the UT team that lead OU 17-0 shows up, then UF is in for a real challenge.

And I believe they will. This is a team that is one year removed from beating Alabama in a bowl game. Just think. When's the last time we were competitive with Alabama let alone beat them?

Saturday was not a step back. It was a step forward. We showed for the first time in a long time that we can compete with the elites of college football.

I have not given up on this team or this coaching staff. The direction of the team is still going up.

Is a year still 12 months? The Alabama game was the 2013 season. A better example of where Oklahoma is would be the last quality opponent they played. Clemson beat them 40-6 in their bowl game last year. The game before that they were beaten at home by a bad Oklahoma State team. Now that doesn't mean they will not be better this year but acting like we lost to an elite team is crazy.

The one I watched Saturday is not. Good but not playoff good.

But UT is? There is a reason they were ranked 9 and UT 23. OU like BG are very good teams. BG not at OU level, but you get the picture. A win would have been signature for sure, but it isn't the end of the world. I still think this is the year Dobbs goes Casey Clausen in the swamp this year. The sky is not falling folks.

Pretty much what I'm saying. If we finish 7-5 with more meltdowns like this week, Then I'll join everyone who is going crazy right now.

But we're in week 2. Lets see how the season plays out before we start firing everyone.

Let's see how the Florida game plays out.

It's Tuesday; it's time to snap and clear. Unfortunately, Butch has no more mulligans, especially against Florida, Mizzou, and Arkansas this year. He has no excuses not to bring these and a lot more home.

I don't believe OU is a playoff team.

Exactly. Herbstriet is the only one I've seen say this. Polls mean little at this time in the season, but preseason expectations disagree that OU is top 5/playoff team as Butch built them up to be. They're believed to be the 3rd best team in the Big XII at this time. Granted that may prove to be wrong after week 12, we'll see.

And who thought we'd be embarrassed, as others have said? The line was basically a push, and unfortunately the ending result proved that to be "right" and not in our favor.

Well, I feel like I've seen what I saw Saturday, in some sort of fashion, at least 3 times now. And I don't think it's uncalled for for fans who have suffered through the crap of the last 7 years to criticize a coach who clearly mismanaged a signature win into a devastating loss. Don't want him fired, don't want anything of the sort. Just want to voice my opinion and displeasure as a fan/supporter and hope that things change so the next time we have control of a game vs a quality opponent like OU that our headcoach doesn't "crap the bed" again.

What do the last 7 years have to do with this coach and these players? This is the problem. Folks like you bring too much baggage from the past. What happened before 2013 should have no bearing on butch jones and this team.

And if you can't get that stop being a vol fan.

And Oklahoma beat us 34-10 last year. Yet we dominated them for 3 quarters Saturday.

Last year has zero bearing on this year.

Says the guy who keeps (wrongly) stating that OU is one year removed from beating Bama. And we did not "dominate" OU for 3 quarters. We were shut out for the last 43 minutes of regulation. Good Lord man.

So you prefer losing by 24 points like we did last year? Even if the staff failed this game, that's a tremendous gap we closed in one year. One game shouldn't define these guys. Lets wait for the season to end before making bold declarations.

Tennessee is alot better now than 2 years ago when Oregon was embrassing us. We can now actually compete again against the elite of college football.

I used to think like you. Sorry but moral victories mean squat.

I think Oklahoma is the second best team we'll play all year so this is one time I'll accept a moral victory. The other being Alabama. Other than those games I agree with you.

I think the big difference with us is I see Oklahoma as one of the best teams in the country and view our performance in that spectrum. You look at them as a decent but not elite team.

If what happened Sunday happened against Baylor or TCU, would you take the moral victory?

Stop making sense. It does not belong on this site 😎

No, that you got that from his post is ridiculous. He is exactly right. We had a signature win in the bag and the coaching staff threw it away.

No we are upset because we didn't score a pt in the second half, clock management and ridiculous play calling. In the first overtime a quick slant 15 yards, we go in to score. Now do you get why we are pissed?

I'm disappointed like everyone else about the game but we did not lose to an inferior team. Many experts have Oklahoma making the playoff. Practically no one picked us and many were afraid we would get embarrassed. This loss hurts but it's not embrassing. Losing to Toledo at home is embrassing.

Butch Jones may not know many things but he does know talent. Before the Bowling Green game, he said they were an explosive offense with an NFL QB. I took it as coach speak and thought we would handle them easily. We now know Bowling Green is a good football team. Similarly, Butch said Oklahoma is underrated and a top 5 football team. If that turns out to be true, then we just had a playoff team on the ropes.

This team can still be great. Folks need to let the season play itself out before making declarations this early in the season. Bringing negativity to this football team this early in the season is wrong.

Tennessee fans need to grow up.

This, all day,long.

I have no problem with the statement that Oklahoma is a better team than UT at this point. They have a better QB, better WRs, better Oline despite their mistakes early on, front seven is better overall especially taking Maggitt out of the equation, their backfield doesn't have a player like Sutton but they don't have the holes we do, our kicker hasn't had it mentally this year either. I have zero problem with any of that and I think at most all of those points are at best arguable.

That said you should not lose to a team when you're up by two TDs at the half in your own house. Our offense did absolutely nothing in the second half of football.

So the coaches missed a field goal that would have won us the game?

So the coaches dropped a pass that would have either gave us a TD or another field goal?

So our coaches had two straight holding penalties that gave OU automatic first downs to keep drives going?

It wasn't the coaches alone. Could the coaches done better a points during the game? Absolutely. But like it or not VN, the coaches did enough for us to win the game.

Do you still view Oklahoma as one of the best teams in the country after Tulsa gained over 600 yards of offense on them and put up 38 points in Norman? The score was 38-31 deep into the 3rd quarter. Tulsa lost 10 games last season. Makes our 250 total yards really really embarrassing.
