INTERVIEWS
Hubbs: Jancek said it was good to have McNeil back at practice wouldn't give time table for return said jones would address on wed.
Brice: @UTCoachJancek: Willie has a great eye for things; yeah I certainly missed him. Says YAC was only 3.6 ypc #Vols
Jancek: Bowling Green's QB was great. He made some unbelievable throws.
Jancek: It's great to have LaDarrell back, but only Coach Jones will address when he can play in a game.
Jancek: Show me a corner who's never been beat.
-RANDOLPH: Playing in Neyland is the greatest place in the world to play. We are looking forward to having it full on Saturday.
(from Rucker/Callahan)
DeBord: Oklahoma has a great defense. They do a great job against the run, and they're good at LB and in the secondary.
DeBord: Coleman Thomas had some good plays Saturday, and he had some plays that weren't as good. He's working really hard at his footwork.
DeBord: I wasn't surprised to see Hurd and Kamara do so well Saturday. I've seen it in practice.
DeBord: It was good to get Preston Williams out there. There were some things he did well, and there are obviously some other things he still needs to work on.
Stripling: We didn't play hard enough up front. That was disappointing. I don't know why. The guys need to be better this week, and they know that.
Gillespie: John Kelly is a really competitive kid, and he gave us a spark. Everybody was excited to see him go into the game.
KIRKLAND: Oklahoma has a great offense. Big backs. They execute their scheme very well.
KIRKLAND: It's going to be an electric environment on Saturday night. I'm just focused on the task at hand and getting down to business.
GILLESPIE: We (the RBs) take a lot of pride in being able to pass protect and in being physical as a unit.
KELLY: I probably can't count on my hands the hours of game film I watched while I was in the hospital last week.
KELLY: I felt pretty good out there. I wasn't in the best physical shape of my life. But it kicked in pretty fast. I'm 100%. Good to go.
KELLY: We made a lot of mental errors as a defensive unit. They were easy mistakes, easy to fix. I feel like we'll be prepared this week.
KELLY: Everyone knows how amazing Neyland Stadium is. 102,455 with the lights on: it doesn't get much bigger than that.
MAGGITT: We've been getting after it the past 2 days. We know how we can play and we didn't play up to that standard.
MAGGITT: We're excited to get back out there, especially for a home opener. This is a great opportunity.
Dustin Dopirak: LaDarrell McNeil was back at practice today. John Jancek said he was happy to have him back but deferred a question on his status to Jones. Jones has a press conference tomorrow at noon. Also, Mack Crowder missed practice today, but that was because of a class.
Wes Rucker: You can tell its a big game week. Two periods of #Vols practice open today, but one couldnt be photographed. #TopSecret
RUCKER'S RAPID REVIEW
-McKenzie and Martin were no longer in green and were given more reps today. Martin was very physical and is a very, very good athlete.THE DARRELL RETURNS: As we hinted at earlier this afternoon, Tennessee senior safety LaDarrell McNeil was dressed and on the practice field Tuesday, and he went through drills albeit in a green, limited-contact jersey. McNeil has been held out with neck instability, and initially there were fears that he would need surgery that might end his football career. The safety received a second opinion in his native Texas, though, and he was on the field Tuesday. Well see if hes able to play Saturday against 18th-ranked Oklahoma. Program sources have insisted that no decision has been made to this point.
