They normally have pretty good kickers. A 50-yard FG isn't crazy for Beamer ball.
A career long on 4th and short down 14 to the best team in football? He's calling the game like he's as old as he is. This isn't the 90s anymore. I don't think many coaches make that FG call

We Selfreported the violation?

We self imposed the penalty?

If so why did it take over a year to self impose a penalty that took place in 2014?

Also since when does a secondary violation penalty come with a game suspension AND recruiting restrictions?

We self-reported. We didn't self-impose. That's why it took so long. I have no idea why the penalty for a bump violation was so strict.

Also, UT had the opportunity to appeal but declined to do so.

We almost lost to Troy man. We got beat by UK with a WR at QB. I'm just saying that while we may have won a game or two more, there are more variables. We still would've sucked I promise

No one disputes that. Strawmen all over the place in this thread.

Somewhere it was said we self imposed but I don't recall where or if it was a creditable source

Seems like a way over the top penalty unless we have had other similar violations. Game suspension and 10 days off the road seems extreme

I really don't hate Ohio State. I'm much happier to see them dominate than Bama or Florida.

It's called Beamer ball for a reason.

Most teams also don't have the collection of kickers and punters that they do year after year or place as much emphasis on special teams as they do.

It makes sense within their system (regardless of how one feels about their system).

When will we see this guy?

Why was Justin Martin so little used Saturday? Is he still not healthy enough or is it that he's not there mentally due to missed practice reps? Will he be ready to start against OU? — GregAmsler

Cornerback Justin Martin is still healing from a knee sprain he suffered in fall camp, which limited his reps in the Bowling Green game Saturday. Martin is continuing to heal from the injury, but Butch Jones said Monday his playing time is set to increase against a feisty Sooners passing attack. They’ll surely need him if he has two working legs and is breathing. “Justin Martin’s reps are going to increase this week,” Jones said at his press conference. “We’ll see how much the knee can handle, but not only the physical repetitions, but the mental repetitions. How can he handle now a little more volume of special teams? How can he handle the volume defensively, just from a mental perspective, let alone a physical standpoint as well?”

I agree it's Beamer ball. I just don't like it.

Down 14-0 and trying a 50yard FG on 4th and short makes zero sense regardless of his MO.

Only shot to win this game is in a shoutout and FG attempt with less than a 50/50 of making it makes zero sense

Martin isn't 100% completely healthy. It's not an issue of him being stubborn. Go watch the press conference. And do a little research before we make some assumptions. It's pretty clear he has no issue playing freshman. Abernathy played half the game

it's VN...we don't do research.

Also, the whole Beamer Ball mystique was lumped onto all special teams units but it was usually more about the defending of those special teams. It's not like they have some long, storied history of producing place kickers.

Saturday?

Guys, I talked a lot of smack about the Tennessee atmosphere compared to OU... back me up on Saturday. Had to sell my tickets for the baby.

Edit: my smack talk was where scholars congregate... twitter
