Saturday is a win win game.

Win and it puts us even more in the national spotlight.

Lose and the game can easily be forgotten with the remainder of our schedule.

Zero reason for there to be any questions about cbj this early in the season regardless of the outcome.

That writing on the wall talk can come in November

Going from having a seasoned veteran that has been a DC a long time as your eyes on the box to a GA is a very big deal. Jancek can trust without a doubt what's Martinez is seeing but has to really think about what a GA is telling him he sees. So there is an impact. Also could have put those kids on the phone and told them the little technique issues they were having and how to fix them.

I will say the biggest deal was we really weren't helping the corners with safety help sometimes by design and sometimes Evan mistaking where he should be. OK game returns TK Jr full time along with Coach Martinez. I expect improvement. We also likely get more reps from Martin and see the playbook package opened up a little more

I'm not saying we could do fine without Martinez, but I don't think we can just write it off to that. Martin needs to be out there, if he's as good as advertised. Berry has some learning to do. AND we need Martinez back.

Wishful thinking, but it would be awesome if Butch intentionally held back on playing Martin and he's actually much closer to being "ready" than we think. Then all of a sudden OU is facing a secondary with another guy who is almost as good as Cam out there. Would seriously screw up their offensive gameplan.

Okay, now. Very few CB's in the league are "almost as good" as Cam.

I actually thought about this with us holding out TKjr

I don't think there's anything wrong with another Tennessee school that has a lot of love for UT sharing the T in this situation. It was already there and it's a great way to express some state pride and give a shoutout to a program many at TSU as well as TSU fans in general have a fondness for.

Prof, I'm not sure how versed you are in the Geier litigation/consent decree, but you maybe ought to read up on it. TSU in its current form wouldn't even exist if it hadn't been for UT's budding Nashville campus being forcibly confiscated by state proponents of affirmative action. It's some pretty ugly stuff and there isn't a whole lot of love lost there. Nor should there be.

He didn't make it a excuse because it is a piss poor excuse and handled wrong by CBJ.

He knew 11 weeks ago he wouldn't be allowed at the game. Plenty of time to get it figured out to avoid lack of continuity and communication. Also, you don't drop it on players hours before the game. JMO.

I posted this in the FF hoping people would read it and apparently that didn't happen.

The coaches didn't know anything 11 weeks ago. They got the final verdict on Friday. The game was on Saturday. Nothing was "dropped on players" nor was it "handled wrong by CBJ".

A Few things that haven't been mentioned from Saturday's game.

Several players that were banged up from Camp, played against Bowling Green.

Evan Berry, Jashon Robertson, Marquez North, Josh Smith, Kendall Vickers, and Khalil Mckenzie are some to name a few.

For those wondering about Dillon Bates, he has been banged up throughout training camp and is still fighting nagging injuries. That has put him behind the 8 ball.

Sort of the same with Kahlil Mckenzie. He has had shoulder issues for the last week and half of Camp, and fought threw it and played against Bowling Green. He figures to get more playing time against OU. Conditioning an issue there.

Even though the O-Line played well, Butch Jones and staff still may look to move some guys around for the best fit.

Staff will look to redshirt Drew Richmond.

Did Justin play Saturday or did I miss something? With the dabalcle at CB against Bowling Green, I was hoping Martin would get a chance to show what hes got. I feel like he would help us alot against Oklahoma, but I also get the feeling that Butch is going to give the upperclassman the right to defend their spots. Unfortunately, it may take a early loss or two until coach finalky lets the talented freshmen play.

Someone needs to inform Tony Barnhart that. On his time on the fan this morning he stated the University received notice 11 weeks ago.

Totally agree with this. Butch is all about preparation. I can understand if the db's were all seasoned seniors, but not with berry, foreman and moseley out there. It should have been planned for all communication purposes. So Butch failed on that one and he gets a pass. Bottom line is we won and hopefully won't have to go through that again.

Martin isn't 100% completely healthy. It's not an issue of him being stubborn. Go watch the press conference. And do a little research before we make some assumptions. It's pretty clear he has no issue playing freshman. Abernathy played half the game

1. Martin has been injured and is working his way back
2. Martin is not a freshman
3. CBJ is going to play his best players
4. Spell check is your friend

I'm with Butch on his assessment of our defensive performance on Saturday which is why for the first year in the last several I really do think this time we'll fix the identified weakness instead of just paying lip service to it week after embarrassing week all season long.

“With a naked eye, everyone wants to point toward the secondary,” Jones said. “Well, that’s not how pass defense works. It’s all 11 individuals, and it starts up front. It starts up front with generating the pass rush. It starts up front with our get-off off the ball, the use of our hands. It starts with the second level, with our linebackers, and then the third level is our secondary.

“And we did not play well defensively at all in the game, and we had some individuals do some uncharacteristic things

Jones said Bowling Green quarterback Matt Johnson and his receivers simply made good plays in many cases during Saturday’s game. At other times, Jones said his team gave Johnson too much time to throw.

“Sometimes it was a really good quarterback making a great throw and the receiver making a great play, and other times it was maybe us not generating a pass rush,” Jones said.

“Playing great pass defense, there’s a lot of working parts and pieces and components. And everyone wants to look at the secondary, because that’s what they see. They see the end of the play. But there’s a lot of things that go in at the beginning of the play, as well.”

Mental errors, poor fundamentals and techniques, and occasionally even “a lack of effort,” Jones said, also were issues at times.

“It gets back to that baseline performance, and our players take pride in their performance,” he said. “They understand that, and the great thing is we can work to correct the problems this week. But it wasn’t just the secondary. And football, it’s played by good players. They’re going to throw the ball up — a 50-50 ball; that’s why they’re called 50-50 balls — and they’re going to make plays.

“Everybody’s on scholarship. I don’t have a problem if you’re in man coverage and, hey, the opponent makes a great play, and it’s a great throw and it’s a great catch. It’s football. It’s sport. You line up and you compete. You snap and clear, and you play the next snap.

“But if we have a mental error, if we have a lack of effort, lack of fundamentals or technique, that’s where we have the issues and the problems. And it was a combination of both.”

Jones: Vols' defensive issues go beyond secondary

Since Drew did not play Saturday, do you think he is being redshirted or was he just not ready since he did not early enroll?

I hope he plays -- why redshirt him and see him leave for the NFL, after the RS soph season ? Or worse, maybe he gets pissed off and transfers to Ole Miss after this season. Put him in along with KM and Kirkland.
