also plenty of cases of civilians walking away from murder charges. or getting less than the max, or having the charges changed to less punishment. heck OJ got away with murder.

Yes. Also instances of LEO's getting more harsh sentences for petty offenses. Impossible to compare.

that's my problem with "their" side of the argument. They only post the side that casts the worst light possible. I think most of us would agree that the cases they are posting the cops should get jail time, when there is harm to a civilian. but to have them tell it, that is every cop out there. and it comes off as dishonest.

You of all people should know the dangers of letting prejudice rule in a court of law. And make no mistake, you are prejudiced against law enforcement. So prejudiced you would slap the maximum punishment you could without a second thought on the matter. I mean, that's never happened to a class of people in this nation before.

So either cops are held to the same legal standards as everyone else or they get the maximum penalty each and every time.

I guess baby steps... we need to first have cops held to the same standards as civilians before we can move on to having them held to a higher standard. Cops get less time in many cases for the same offence that a canceal carry or homeowner would get if they were involved in a shooting.

So I agree to an extent, lets get cops on the same justice system as everyone else. I would consider that a good middle ground.

I agree that they need to be held to the same standards in certain situations but there needs to be a difference in other situations. Its similar to any other profession.....Im not giving the same privilege as a person that has been trained and licensed in a particular profession.

Pretty much what I was thinking as I read the last 10 pages. At this point I'd be happy with simply holding them to the same standards then everybody else.

So wait... lets forget about the tragic loss of life and think about this from an economic standpoint. The taxpayers had to pay to feed and house this guy for 4 months over a Mountain Dew, Zebra cake and Snickers bar?

Am I the only one not able to wrap my mind around how insane this criminal justice system is?

When a cop gets shot, like the one in Memphis recently, do to think to yourself "Let's wait til all the facts are out. We really need to hear the shooters side of the story before we jump to conclusions. For all we know, he could've been defending himself. "?

I don't see what that has to do with anything when the fact remains that you still wasted tax dollars housing a guy for 4 months over a $5 theft. Like I have been saying in here the entire time, not every "crime" is worthy of an arrest or jail. Why some people can't understand this simple concept escapes me.

Agreed. They should have just shot him. Saved us (tax payers) some money and kept the thief out of society.
