The bigger picture is the problem. If the school continues to punish him when a court of law can't, what's to stop anyone from claiming anything against anybody just to ruin their education? It's one thing to be arrested and tried and found not guilty because you had a good lawyer or the case was thin. It's another to not have enough evidence to even charge a guy. That means they've got nothing other than one persons word against another. If you allow that to be the reason for school suspension, then you open Pandora's box.

bad news, it's already been opened. look , i'm just saying, lets at least allow for the possibility that in today's environment regarding violence against women, w/football players in particular, that it's at least remotely possible that UT, while also under investigation with 121 other schools for how sexual assaults are handled, might err on the side of caution and let Von go get his 2nd chance elsewhere.

Accused of rape. Rape kit was negative.

Now maybe he did something terrible and got away with it but everything is pointing to him being innocent. I maybe totally off base but I've heard the standard of evidence necessary for charging and indicting someone is very low and Von was never charged.

That is correct. DA's as well as Grand Jury's are routinely instructed to go ahead and bring forth charges if there is any "possibility of a crime being committed", then it is of course up to the trial to determine guilt. The fact that there are absolutely no charges in this case stresses that Von did absolutely nothing to warrant even looking in to whether he was guilty or not.

The law doesn't prove innocence-- innocence is presumed unless the state can prove guilt. Only Von and his accuser will ever know the real truth in this case-- which is precisely the outcome in most sexual assault allegations.
good point.

2nd chance for what?

Wouldn't there need to be a finding of wrongdoing?

I would like more to come of this. The accuser needs to be disproven and charged with malice. There has to be consequences on the back side of this or this is going to become a recurring theme. This is bigger than football issue. Just gets a lot of attention in the sports world

Shhh. Not so loud. Do you want them to bring their legal/political/ethical discussion over here and pollute the good news with "intelligent debate?"

What have you read on here so far?

to continue his football career. and as for the finding of wrongdoing, the university could still find that he broke the code of conduct, w/out having been criminally charged.

If for some reason that UT doesn't readmit Pearson... He should lawyer up. There is NO reason to NOT readmit him. HE DID NOTHING WRONG, according to the courts.

The only thing he needs to be "reminded" of is not to get in that situation again!!

Put it out there. Otherwise, he is innocent until proven guilty and there would be no reason for UT not to enroll him and let him at.

So if someone is found guilty then they didnt commit the crime until the moment a juror says he is guilty? C'mon quit with the cliches
