Update on the cop that was killed last night....Memphis police say that they have apprehended a person of interest in their search for a suspect in the shooting last night. The death of the officer is the third killing of a policeman in a little over 4 years.

Ever wonder why people are standoffish with cops? 70 cops tragically killed in the line of duty this year. Over 500 unarmed civilians killed by police this year. Only one group has the motto to protect and serve. Oh and I hope the pos who shot the cop gets the death penalty.

Can you provide a link to that 500 number?

Edit: you cant because its false.

Nope, just the other day I asked a question to a new applicant. They didn't give the right answer so I kicked their chair out and hit them with the Metro phone book until I got an answer I liked.

Oh wait...

i call bs. who has a phone book these days?

people need to look up the 1920s and 30s (and probably a stretch before hand) to see why letting the companies run things is a bad idea. company towns in West Virginia and Pennsylvannia were such great places when they had no government police forces, good thing the cops hired by the companies took such great care of the citizens.

why does free market security sound better to some people? its only fair if there is equal competition, rates are the same across the board, you CAN'T pay more than your neighbor. and in this system who makes the rules? who says what these blatantly bought and paid for cops are actually arresting people for. and why is company ABC more trustworthy than ABC government agency?

also, no offense to the real officers out there, but the patrol cops are not the ones to be hunting down bankers and fraudsters. once the warrant is issued, sure, but not before hand.

To be fair, he's being generous with the 70 deaths "in the line of duty" figure too. More cops have been killed in automobile accidents than in gunfights. Heck, 11 croaked from heart attacks alone. The donuts are almost as dangerous as the criminals

If you can't trust Krispy Kreme who can you trust? No wonder cops are cautious.

That's pretty much standard LE protocol isn't it? The little bastard's lucky they didn't taze him as far as I'm concerned.

In all honesty, making him wear the cuffs for a few minutes was no big deal. The damage they did to that child was psychological.

"You can do what we asked you to or you can suffer the consequences"

In 10 years he'll probably be one of the boot lickers in here who watch a cop murder somebody and respond "We'll the idiot shouldn't disobeyed the cop and he'd still be alive"

This is a tangent point, but this disgusts me as much as the cop's actions.

In an extremely disturbing video, school resource officer, Kenton County Deputy Sheriff Kevin Sumner, can be seen handcuffing a sobbing 8-year-old boy, referred to in court documents as S.R. The child is so small that Sumner has to lock the child’s biceps together behind his back. What makes the case even more appalling is that the child has a history of trauma and has been diagnosed with ADHD.

The other child named in the lawsuit, a girl named in the suit as L.G., was twice handcuffed in the same manner as S.R. She is a special needs student and has also been diagnosed with ADHD.

So 2 kids diagnosed with ADHD... I swear, the grown ups are the ones ruining kids today.

I'm all for everyone being educated, but I can only imagine what this child was doing to force this officer to cuff him. Unfortunately the supplier of this video edited that out or it does not exist.

I agree. As someone with family that works with elementary students, I can attest to the fact that there are children that have no business being allowed to remain in public schools. There are some that are incredibly violent. Here in Knoxville there was a family friend with a dangerous student in class that would have violent outbursts and throw heavy objects at the teacher and other students. In fact, this child eventually stabbed the teacher in the hands and legs with scissors during an outburst, and the school would never do anything because the kid's mother worked for the Knox County legal system.

So yes, there are kids that really do need to be handcuffed and taken away. We can't risk the safety of the other children and teachers so some rotten apple's parents feelings don't get hurt. That's the ugly truth.

It's true....Memphis had in one year:

124 murders
437 Rapes
3,133 Robberies
7,200 Aggravated Assaults

Im much more worried about the criminals than your outrage towards the police.....So far this year Chicago has 264 murders.....that is just two American cities with almost 400 murders.

Doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement for the boys in blue. They don't appear to be doing a very good job preventing crime.

I know, we need more cops as well as more funding for them as well, right? No thanks.

Nope....we need families that stay together and raise their children to be good citizens....We need to be allowed to punish our kids and hold them accountable when they do wrong. Our kids need to be taught how to handle failure so they can know how to work towards success. I am thankful that we have cops out there dealing with these issues though.
