'16 TN LB Daniel Bituli (UT commit 7/18/15)

Maybe true that all these big time coaches and coordinators think this kid is a big time player and I really hope he is. It does worry me a bit of Bituli's assessment from De1. De1 probably has gotten to see Bituli on the field alot more than some of these other coaches and I don't want someone to be dead weight on our team either. The guy is a physical specimen and I hope our coaches will bring out the monster in Bituli. Thanks for all your info regarding these recruits De1! I really appreciate the info you bring! It is very insightful and gives us some inside knowledge of a players strenghs and weaknesses we would not have without you on this board. Never the less, I know we all want Daniel to give his all for Tennessee! Welcome Daniel, and a Big Time Boom for you!

I think a lot of guys in here still question de1's opinions because he claimed in the past to be a former UT player. Still seems to bring good info though regardless

Ditto.

If we had more Internet like this in the early 90s, this discussion would mirror the recruiting of Kevin Carter. A true physical specimen, but he took plays off and had issues with motivation. Spurrier even once told the media he "looked like Tarzan, played like Jane". There is no such thing as a sure thing or Bama, UGA, et al would not be losing kids after a season or two when they were considered sure fire NFL down the road.

Bituli has the ability & athleticism to become an All-SEC LB at UT. The way he reads & reacts at LB is a beautiful thing. He has great closing speed & does a great job getting downhill to the ball-carrier.

He does play small division HS football, but with his size & speed he can be coached into a complete LB. I think sometimes people can get their feelings hurt by a HS kid if he doesn't compete in their camp, but that doesn't make him any less of a player. No need to speculate on why a player chooses to camp or not camp. Like others have said, there is a reason Bituli is ranked so highly & has offers from some of the brightest defensive minds in football (Muschamp, Chavis, etc.) Great addition to UT's class.

Even if he does have some weaknesses. He's built like an SEC LB. Once he's here he'll train like one and hopefully become a great player.

I'm going to ride with my opinion.

That this kid is supremely athletically talented, but he is going to need a fire lit under him to make him come close to achieving his potential.

No horn to toot here just speaking on my track record.

Never saw any of that on VN, but I have seen you say that Thigpen and staff backed off of their recruitment of Bitulli based on you bringing the kids classification to light.... Then he commits

I've also seen you comment on Gray about not starting when he has started every game at La Vergne....

You can have your opinions but you've been fairly "as fact" with them and the two I bring up don't prove much of a track record....

sounds a little upset that he doesnt camp with his little training team that he has.

Muschamp/Malzahn, Geoff Collins/McElwain, Manny Diaz/Mullen, Stoops brothers, Grantham/Petrino, John Hoke/Spurrier, Freeze/Wommack, Jones/Jancek, Miles/Steele. Meyer/Fickell and Brian Kelly/Vangorder......Those are all the big time Head Coach/ D-Coordinators that have offered him. I think ill rode with those guys.

I just dont think you are outsmarting all those coaches here on this kid.

I'm not saying de1 is right or wrong but the committable offers at the end of the season matter more than now. I remember a kid a year or two ago named petera wilson who before his senior season had offers from bama, florida, fsu, lsu, georgia, ole miss, and tennessee and was also a top 100 player in the nation but as his season played out his ranking plummeted, his offers became non-committable, and he ended up signing with tulsa

That's a fair observation... Bituli seems to have more of the SEC body though.

De1 is the man. I'll give him props cause he's said Bituli isn't the "best" player in the state long before he committed and is still sticking by it. He could be right.

I'm glad De1 has thick skin cause nothing will drive that dude off and I like hearing his opinion on stuff.

People can scold me all they want. I honestly feel like there are two better "LB's" In the state than Bituli. We have one in Hart.

Bituli projects as WDE or edge player (LEO, JACK, etc..) imo.
His wrestling experience should help with being physical. It shows on his film as well.

From what I can see his lateral quickness is very average. He does not play with good pad-level.
If you look at his highlight tape, one thing that stands out is he's almost never blocked. I mean his competition is awful- not his fault tho.

It takes him to long to get his momentum going.

He's a little stiff. Doesn't have good bend.
One thing I DO like is he hustles. He has a pretty good motor and seems to enjoy the game of football

He is another Chris Donald, except less athletic...

He's a big kid who can move pretty well for his size, but if he has to change directions -which happens a lot in football- then he will have trouble recovering.

To summarize
- needs to play lower
- needs to work on his feet.
- improve flexibility.

And D1 you make a good point. Camps help kids better through competition. Why not go? Whether it's your camp or someone else's. And you don't have to go all summer or spring, but go to a few to get better..

Lol. I think Auburn should have hired you & D1 to be co-defensive coordinators. You all have this whole football thing figured out.
