You talk about elevating a team. Jordans rookie year he had a foot injury. He came back and willed the team into the playoffs, he then proceeded to almost singlehandedly knock off one of the GREATEST teans ever, the Boston Celtics, in game 5 dropping 63 on them. I cannot name one other player on that Bulls team..maybe Charles Oakley?. You kids just do not understand, the game now is pathetic compared to the golden age. LeBron is playing in the wrong era

I honestly cannot even believe that there is an argument for who is the greatest of all time. Check his stats and championship rings… It all speaks for itself.

I am, if anything, decidedly American. Also, 33%+ tax brackets suck.

Other countries have much higher taxation rates. France is way higher...

What sucks to me is that you do not qualify for deductions when you are in that bracket.

Very high student loan debt, but cannot deduct from taxes....
Adoption costs also not deductible...
In a lower tax bracket, you can deduct 100% of student loans and adoption costs...

If a deduction is available to some Americans, why not all? Our current tax code punishes hard work and achievement, imo

Taxation without representation was one of the reasons this country was founded. Yet now, it is a firm principle of my government...
If I pay 300% more taxes, shouldn't I get 300% more votes? Not fair you say? To whom?
I would be all for a flat tax across the board with absolutely no deductions. 20% fair? Bet the government would end up with more tax money at the end of the day.

End Rant :)

Some good thoughts here. I also think it's crazy how low the long-term capital gains tax is compared to regular income tax brackets...It's how you get people like Steve Jobs who had a salary of $1 a year - it wasn't because he was being altruistic folks, unless you count being altruistic towards yourself - he was worth millions on paper and would thus just pay the much lower capital gains tax. Now I know why it's set up this way, to incentivize long-term capital investment, but if in the process it actually disincentives earning income (because less taxes will be paid on the same amount), then is it really worth it? Does that really help the common American? Like you said, it punishes hard work and achievement - for example, the successful small-town business owner who has a high income because he's worked hard to make his business profitable, but not nearly as much in capital gains. He's paying a far higher tax rate than Warren Buffet is. The obvious solution is to raise capital gains tax moderately and lower federal income tax by the same amount. It won't significantly disincentivize investment, but it will absolutely encourage earning income. The current system has encouraged some absolutely silly behavior by the ultra-rich and doesn't do much to help most people. I'm with you on the flat tax, though. Our tax code desperately needs reform.

I'm with ya Doc. You shouldn't be punished for being successful.

How much you make Doc? 100-150 grand a year at least? They take 1/3 of your money..sux, but you are still well off. Take a 1/5th of a guys money making 30 grand, they struggle to pay basic bills. We should be thankful we live in this country.

Cannot run for office cause of skeletons in my closet...mostly from my time at UT as a student :hi:
But it was before the Internet or social media, so maybe there's a chance :)

If you know up front then you can plan ahead...its kinda a crapshoot to me.
I just used 20% as a starting place. Should be lower, imo.

Fair taxes to all US citizens is not too much to ask for is it? When you take a look at how wasteful our government is with our tax dollars, it just pisses me off.

I lived in a 3rd world country for 2 years. It helped me realize how great this country is. Our tax code is not any part of what makes us great :)

We do need a VFL to run for President btw.

:salute:

You've made some great points.

I really have never understood why the tax code should be more than 10 or 20 pages.

National Sales tax with exemptions on food and medicine would be the fairest tax.

Everyone would pay their share. Don't want to pay taxes.... don't buy anything.

Tourist, criminals, illegal aliens all would pay taxes.

I started to say almost the exact same thing and figured it would get flamed so I passed. Despite all the PC people running their mouths out there about tax fairness, which is and always will be in the eye of the beholder, the states that depend on sales taxes and not income taxes to fund their operations (forget the Hall Tax which will probably go away down the road); do better. The RTW states do better. Period. You can't legislate your way to prosperity, but you can totally destroy your prosperity with it.

Take a clue feds and progressives. Your PC junk on taxation, healthcare plans, give aways to illegals, etc. are fooling nobody with a brain. It's nothing but a money grab to fund your pet voters/cronies (tools), pork and pockets.

Exactly. If you tax consumption rather than production then nobody is punished for making more money.

Senator Vols4US, I presume?
Party leader...

Chief of Staff?

Senator Glichtenwalter has a nice ring to it...

:)

I wouldn't fit in very well. I have this habit where I like to tell stupid people they are stupid. You can see where this is headed I'm sure.
