Coaching Search Thread

I'm not saying he's a great coach- I'm saying Tennessee would be lucky to have him. Our last hire set the world on fire by making the NIT two straight years in a MUCH easier league. So for us now to act like Tyndall has somehow elevated our program to the point that Barnes is beneath us is embarrassing.

And frankly, if our next coach is even still HERE in five years, I'll say "thank you sweet Jesus!", because that would be a massive improvement to the complete @#$# show we've been dealing with in the preceding five years.

Only doing something better than the crap show we've recently produced is not a goal, that's giving up. This is a similar crap show situation we saw under Peterson, but someone came in and said "I'm here to win". That's what you need to get and you'd be surprised at how quality things will turn around. It's an attitude of assertiveness rather than acceptance.

You fail to see how unique the Bruce Pearl situation truly was. Bruce was more than just an "up and coming" coach. He was an established coach who was essentially blackballed in the profession because of some serious ethical concerns. UT was able to land Bruce because they were willing to roll the dice and offer the black sheep of the coaching family a job. Ben Howland is probably the closest example to Bruce Pearl. No one doubts he can coach, many people doubt that he can run a program.

Why is no one talking about Travis Ford?
That guy consistently gets to the NCAA. And B12 is becoming a crappy conference.

This isn't Jackson State. People think we have to grovel and beg for mid-major guys to come to our middling program. There are other guys besides Pearl who can and would win big here. What's holding us back isn't some lack of prestige of UT, but admin at UT being historically horrible.

Barnes would make ut the 3rd best team in the conference and probably put ut in the tournament every year.. Sec is a lot easier then the big 12. more than likely Tennessee would win 20 to 25 games a year and the program would be stable what more can you ask for right now and he's a proven coach.

This sounds like every Vanderbilt fan I know. They look at the minor blip in time that Franklin made them competitive, and believe that is where their program is. It isn't. Just like the very brief blip Pearl gave us, THREE COACHES AGO NOW, isn't where we actually are as a program now. Tyndall was the last guy we got in here. Barnes would be a massive upgrade from that. IF you can't see that, we will just have to disagree.

Hasn't won an NCAA game since we crapped the bed defensively against them in 2009. Guy hasn't been worth talking about in a while.

We certainly aren't going to get Barnes for cheap, if he is Hart's choice.

UT actually has a pretty good basketball situation, IMO. We are in a relatively weak conference, with one dominant program, one good/very good program--and then everybody else. Put together some decent talent and you can win conference games and be the third or fourth best team in the conference and put yourself in position for a conference bid.

It's not rocket science to win here and the fan support is there, waiting for something worth watching. Give them a good product and they'll come in droves.

So, what has changed with the admin now? Like I said, Bruce Pearl was the perfect storm, but the same reason he couldn't get a job was the same reason he lost his job, and it's one of the reasons why UT basketball is struggling the way it is right now. Bruce burned UT and all of his momentum was lost.

The admin hired, what looks like, a winning football coach, so they won't be going anywhere. The day UT fires an AD while there are positive feelings with the football team is probably the day Bruce Pearl returns to UT to coach basketball. Of course, that being never.

2 dominant programs. UF was just down this year. Billy Donovan has more NC's than Cal.

3rd? Your delusional.

If you think UT basketball is in any way like Vandy football, then you are out of your damn mind.

Travis Ford may not advance in NCAA tourneys but at least he gets there. I think our fan base is looking for that consistency. Now, if he comes here and doesn't advance one time within 7 seasons then we may need another coach. That's why TX fired Barnes.

You don't hire a guy with NCAA run-ins when you're 3 years removed from NCAA run-ins. You sure as hell don't hire the same guy who was responsible for those run-ins. You absolutely in no f-ing way hire that guy one week after you fire a coach for NCAA run-ins.

I think you should repost this after every "Bring back Bruce" post. Maybe.....just maybe, they will get it.
