Talk about taking the wrong job: Buzz Williams at Va. Tech. He's a good coach, but at the wrong school in the wrong conference. The hokies lost 17 of their last 19 games this year. Granted it was Williams' first year--but how about coaching at a football school in a conference with UNC, Duke, Louisville, Syracuse (now weakened by sanctions), NC State, Virginia--and FSU and Clemson are usually respectable or better as well. Virginia Murderer's row. Good luck with that. Wish we could hire him away from Va.Tech--though I know the buyout would prevent it. UT and the SEC would be a very nice situation for him. It's too bad he took the Va. Tech job just before the Quanze left us.
Bill Justice stated on the Doug Mathews show this morning that himself and other former players want Rick Byrd.
I am now on that bandwagon. Biggest reason being he will bring great stability for a 3-5 year period and then I believe the time will be right for a homecoming in which many if not all of the big donors will strongly support.

Barnes is the better coach vs. Byrd and would do everything much better plus be 10 times the recruiter. If it is stability you want the choice between the two is crystal clear, Barnes every time.

I feel so dejected by this basketball program that I don't really even care who we hire. Sure, I'd prefer a guy like Chris Mack but I realize that's probably unrealistic. I really don't care. Just hire someone so we can pretend to care about them until next season.
A Sweet 16 appearance and an awful ref call from the Elite 8 would seem to refute this assertion.
How is Barnes better?
How is Barnes better? Byrd has over 900 wins at ........get this.....Belmont. Just because he has not been to and won multiple tournement games does not make him a lesser coach. Byrd would be a great hire that would win and win big at UT.
Don't be intellectually dishonest.

True, true, true, and true.
Too bad some of the higher ups won't get over the fact he "burned bridges" a couple of years ago.
He would win, and I thought winning cures everything...
(Seriously, Tennessee fans would donate a ton of money to get him back, but this would be too big of a hire for Hart to accept)
