I don't think so. Basically, if you want to try to determine if someone did things tactically correct or someone broke the law you're trying to compare apples to oranges.

Now if you think this officer did something criminal, by all means apply the standard.

Tim, got to call BS here. The military has used AARs for however long in order evaluate and improve tactics and procedures.

I have no problems with evaluating to determine better ways to do things, I guess I'm confusing myself here.. But, I was more or less saying that trying to determine if someones tactics, in a live situation with no script, is being judged after the fact then it will be flawed. However, I do see the necessity to improve and the only way to do that is to examine these incidents.

I thought police were supposed to be irrational, quick to use excessive force and completely opposed to people exercising their Rights!

Here's a hint of advice. If you get cops that are actually being reasonable and polite, try not to antagonize them like this douche canoe behind the camera.

And furthermore, if you choose to open carry a long gun onto school property, you probably should expect some attention to be paid to you. Starting around 3:45

And again, if you are being antagonistic, it's likely not going to help you get your message across.

The open carry stuff is dumb. Remember those fat losers that were carrying them into Chipotles in Texas? Those morons are doing everyone a disservice.

No. Police are supposed to be rational and tolerant of people exercising their rights. That's why it is a big problem when we find so many that aren't doing that. You've found some examples where the police aren't acting like state programmed death robots. That's encouraging, and I'll agree that a majority of police are probably just as rational as these. But that doesn't excuse the problems with the bad ones, and it doesn't excuse the lengths that the good ones go to in order to cover for the bad ones. Good cops need to treat the other good cops like brothers and treat the bad ones like estranged second cousins. Quit going to bat for the ass hats.

The point still stands. Those officers went way above and beyond to keep the situation at a professional level. But obviously nobody here wants to admit that.

So those that like to claim the "poor innocent citizen" act and how LEOs are out of control need to see it's a two way street in how to deal with cops.

So you think that jackwagon in the video was perfectly reasonable and easy to deal with? In case you missed it, he was attempting to pick a fight to prove his point.

Perhaps you should stop wearing blinders and focusing on only what the cops are doing. There were far too many ways for both these situations to have gone completely wrong. And that idiot was provoking the responding officers in attempting to get them to go overboard.

Give credit where credit is due. People like this are not helping your case. And in case you missed it, he was spouting off the same crap many of you on here spew out on a regular basis so you can't say he's just an extreme example.

I'm not following. Your response doesn't seem to jive very much with my post.

I focused on the last sentence.

Did you watch the videos?

I didn't mean "stop going to bat" as in "you, Grand, stop going to bat". I meant that the good cops should stop going to bat for the bad ones when they continue to f*** up. That was sort of a tangent that didn't really pertain to the video. I thought these cops were reasonable. I thought the guy filming was a douche that was looking for a fight.

This jumped out at me.

“I tell you what, I respect the law less today than I did before,” said Charles Tharp.

This is becoming a really common theme and, IMHO, it strongly behooves all law enforcement to understand that when this happens it makes their job at least harder and at worst more dangerous. The "good" cops should absolutely detest those officers that put them in a bad light.

Unfortunately, this department has a lot of issues but a good ol' boy system has let it slide. This particular deputy has had problems like this in the past and is still doing this sort of thing after slaps on the wrist.

For real.... Cop was doing his best to be cool. Guys should have just reciprocated and BS'ed with him instead of acting like priviledged knobs.

This clown deserved a good booting ..... He should just wear a sign that says " please... Beat the hell out of me"
