Conversely, when looking for medical information I frequently seek my bartender's advice.:)

Oh, you wanna go there, old man?

I will say that my first response to any medical emergency is to pour cheap vodka on it and sip good bourbon til it scabs over/concerned girlfriend gets home.

Yes, and it's obvious he couldn't. But, the reason he could not breathe enough to sustain life can, and is, tied directly to his poor health and obesity. Arguing that he died solely because of one reason is not factual, a multitude of things are cited in the report.

I feel like we had a thread for this debate some time ago.

Any man could be killed by a choke hold.

I'm wondering what the reaction on this board would be if the homeowner had opened fire...

I think if someone comes breaking into your home in the middle of the night that it's a definite possibility. I've said many times that foolish behavior is the catalyst for every one of these instances discussed. The cops are not above initiating the foolish behavior.

Garner could scream. Garner died from asphyxiation.

Asphyxiation is suffocation. Suffocation is the inability to breath sufficiently to continue the respiratory process.

Check mate. Now, shut up.

The medical examiner also listed acute and chronic bronchial asthma, obesity and hypertensive cardiovascular disease as contributing factors in Garner's death.

The cops should have easily been aware of his medical condition and acted accordingly. Obvious, he wasn't going to evade arrest and get in a foot race with cops at close to 400 lbs.

WTF? You guys say cops are dumb as hell one minute and then say they should be able to easily assess someone's existing health?

How much time transpired from the time he was choked until he died? Im just curious how the cause of death was asphyxiation if he didn't die for several hours. Was he never revived and coherent after the incident? I've never heard any of these details.

I like your advice..... Sterilize the wound and relieve the pain while resting

Trust me... If you knew the extent of how idiotic that argument is you certainly wouldn't be making it.

Look, I made a statement that was factual. You and your buddies decided to call names without disproving my statement. You claim you backed someone into a corner because you are an ICU nurse (when i have twice the medical training that you have). My statement was true. Enough said.

Totally agree. Thats the point I was trying to make to York. I may be wrong, but I would venture to say that his children haven't been on the wrong side of the law because they werent involving themselves in foolish behavior. 99.9% of the cases discussed here involve some criminal behavior and not some Joe Blow being singled out for the heck of it. Does that warrent them being killed? In some cases no and some yes I would say.

I'm not really sure what all happened so I'm merely speculating here. He probably became extremely hypercapnic (increased serum CO2) due to poor gas exchange as a result of inadequate ventilation (the chokehold).

That's probably when all his comorbidities came into the picture. First off, he probably lives in the land of high CO2 to begin with. Also once the chokehold was released, you and I would've instantly began compensating and probably been just fine. Not him though. Those crappy lungs and that huge belly just won't allow him to breathe like he needs to in order to compensate. In fact, he just continues to get worse. He needs to be intubated to get that CO2 back to its normal level of just really high instead of the insanely high that it is at that moment.

Correcting the acute problem could be achieved in as little as 12 to 24 hours on the ventilator. Now weaning him off the ventilator may have been a challenge and possibly taken much longer, but that's a different story. The point is that he would've survived with timely intubation and mechanical ventilation.

He probably died within a couple of hours and certainly never regained consciousness.

How much medical training do I have?

Video Exonerates Man Set Up By Louisiana Cops And Prosecutors

A year after the incident, then-District Attorney Walter Reed brought charges against Dendinger. His case was backed by two prosecutors who asserted that Dendinger had assaulted Cassard. Seven witness statements also supported the case.

Cassard made the same claim, writing in a voluntary statement that Dendinger “slapped him in the chest” when he served the summons.

Pamela Legendre, a staff attorney who witnessed the hand-off, said she thought Dendinger had punched Cassard.

Bogalusa police chief Joe Culpepper said that Dendinger had used “violence” and “force.”

And another witness said in a deposition that Dendinger used such force when he served the summons that Cassard flew back several feet.

“It wasn’t fun and games, they had a plan, the plan was really to go after him and put him away. That is scary,” Philip Kaplan, the attorney representing Dendinger in his civil rights case, told WWL.

First off… You made an idiotic and douchey statement and we all called you out on it. Secondly… I didn't back you into any corners. You did an exceptionally good job of doing that all by yourself.

Though Carl... I'm sure jp could probably explain that much better. He's got twice the training that I do.

No you did a good job. Well done. I only stated my experience when you poked your chest out and acted like an expert because you're "an ICU nurse" and started calling names stating I didn't have a clue what I was talking about.

Just going off the information you posted im assuming you are a registered nurse. I could be wrong.

You're correct… But I am a bachelors or just associate prepared? Do I have any certifications and if so how many? How long have I been a nurse? Have I worked in other areas besides the ICU and if so how many?

These are just all things that I figured you knew since you were ready to proclaim you had twice the training that I do.

So when Trut and the others want to talk semantics its fine, but when someone wants to turn that game back on them they don't like it. Besides, how was it an " idiotic and douchey" statement? You guys are the ones arguing about whether Eric Garner could breathe when I never brought him up.

You think you might want to ask all those questions about me? Not that it makes any difference with the conversation at hand.
