What else they gonna say when militia are taking em to the wood shed, right?!

Have you been on social media yet to see the latest Geoffrey Pyatt tweet? He posted a tweet as "evidence" of Russian air defense systems near Debaltseve in the grainiest, black and white photo they could find from the 1970's.

while i wouldn't know russian artillery from Santa Claus, isn't it usually the case when they add the squares that they have enlargements somewhere? maybe stereotyping a bit, but i doubt the best images we have are in the hands of twitterers

Why not show the enlargements? I mean, you can't argue because of security reasons because they've gone this far to release this.

So all we are given are these blurry b&w photos released on twitter, some photos by James Inhofe that were supposed to be Russian tanks rolling into Ukraine when it was later found to be Russians in Georgia in 2008, and a few other unsubstantiated claims on social media by Kiev.

here's my thinking. How much military information gets out in general? I haven't seen photos of this scale for dealing with ISIS, or Afghanistan; saw some with Iraq when we were first hitting moving in. Yet we, the average joe, know our government has intel on those situations, and we saw very little. Yeah there is apparently a video showing an ISIS man with a goat, and you can watch a missile strike, but nothing on the troop movements and positions. (I believe for a good reason, the less the enemy knows you know the better-talking warfare not in debate club). the level of stuff getting out there is on par with other areas where we know who the 'bad guys' are, and everybody agrees they are bad guys.

The Inhofe episode is absolutely disgusting. He's on the Armed Services Committee, he should have high standards for credibility. He had his staff 'verify' the pictures before he presented them as authentic. Geezus, every time the info in this thread gets me to start thinking maybe our goals aren't that bad in Ukraine... I read something like this.

I'm not a big fan of Inhofe any more. He won the reelection out here...and turned right around and supported a tax hike on gas.

As of right now, Chile or Colombia. I plan on visiting Northeastern Brazil (Forteleza, Natal and/or Recife) soon to get a feel of that.

Ras,
I've noticed you do a lot of traveling. Is it job related? Or do you travel just for the experience?

ok, on lunch break so got some time to hatch out some straight up tin foil stuff here.

this operates under a couple assumptions based on what i have seen:
1. putin wants to carve up Ukraine
2. putin is backing the rebels and is in nominal control
3. Putin wanted to be part of the talks and create a bad peace plan sure to fail (as we are already seeing)

ok, the current cease fire fighting spreads, and fully restarts. including the massacre of the Ukrainians in the pocket. Putin comes out and condemns this violence in general. he calls out the rebels and their is a public fight/spat between the russians and the rebels. the rebels keep fighting and eventually 'accidentally' somehow hit russia territory killing some civilians there. it is cast in the light of unfortunate expansion of warfare. now Putin has the validation needed to roll in the regulars and take over quite quickly as the vast majority of rebel forces 'disappear'. Putin then annexes the two autonomous regions in order to protect russia, keeping a large military force there to 'maintain' protection all the while never having actually invaded Ukraine as they were autonomous regions, and he was 'fighting' rebels not Ukrainian government forces

full blown tin foil. discuss.

Just the experience. I've been limited to just the Western Hemisphere (partially due to work schedule and not being able to plan vacations when I would like).

I've never been to the Caribbean and have only been to Mexico once. I usually try to stay as far south of Mexico as possible to get away from the touristy/loud/obnoxious gringos. That is one reason why I am hesitant about going to Costa Rica (too many Americans).

That is so neat. I'm too much of a chicken to leave the country. But I do want to go to the Caribbean. Maybe one day I'll man up and go.

Just as in the rubble of Debaltseve, the Ukraine thread ceasefire comes to a quick end.

We had just about pushed Ras back across the imaginary thread border, crushing his armies in the process, when, out of the blue, Pacer and Red show up to mount a counter-offensive, pushing the lines back nearly to their original starting points.

Sound familiar? Coincidence, I think not.

You should add that to the conspiracy endgame thread. Ras, Pacer, and Red are going to take over volnation... starting in the politics thread. But you have to connect the dots to see that they're the same person.

You may be right. Who knows exactly how it will play out, but there is one thing I'm certain of: none of these ceasefires or truces have (as far as Russia is concerned) been serious. Just show for the Russian public and others around the globe to make it look like Putin and Russia legitimately want peace there.

Why bother doing that?

By using free agents, Russian maintains its influence over the area without having to take responsibility for it.

i guess its a influence vs control argument then. It is worth it, to Putin, having 'influence' when having control costs him nothing? that way instead of having his land bridge to Crimea in everything but name he actually does. We all know Russia is going to be propping up these two regions no matter what happens anyway.

See, two people can play that game. Difference being, that not only would it be true in Kiev, but in Iraq, Syria, Yemen, etc.

Difference being that one side is sending money for TechCamps and election activities, and the other side is sending artillery to blow people into pieces.

Wait... The US was itching to send weapons while Putin, Merkel and Hollande were talking peace.
