uh, no. if/when the peace talks fail the US has made provisions to aid the victim as they are called to in a treaty. I believe it was Jefferson who reused the quote "Let he who desires peace prepare for war." think of it as a hope for the best prepare for the worst type of thing. If peace holds up, and it already looks like it wont, and America sends weapons over there, who would they use them against? If the peace is maintained and American weapons end up in Ukraine what does that matter?

how long until Putin orders his rebels to maintain the ceasefire? Thats why he was at the talks right? because they were his rebels.

Remember: Seps says Debaltsevo not included in ceasefire as this within DNR terrain. But if Ukr uses force there, that violates ceasefire.

this makes no sense. the cease fire only applies to Ukrainian territory? and i think having 8000 in Debaltsevo is the very definition of controlling the territory so still under Ukraine

can't say i am surprised. if i was the ukrainians i would have made sure each unit had a camera and was recording to prove the rebels fire first

Browder, an American businessman who was expelled by Putin after loosing his business interests, is on Zakaria this morning.

Take it for what it's worth, but he just claimed that he believes Putin is the wealthiest man on Earth, most likely with 200 billion worth of assets.

I've heard 40-60 billion estimates before, but that is the first I've heard anything that staggering.

Ukraine rebels disavow ceasefire at encircled town | Reuters

Guns fell abruptly silent at midnight across much of eastern Ukraine in line with the ceasefire agreement, reached after a week of diplomacy led by France and Germany. But pro-Russian rebels announced they would not observe the truce at Debaltseve, where Ukrainian army forces were encircled.

"Of course we can open fire (on Debaltseve). It is our territory," senior rebel commander Eduard Basurin told Reuters. "The territory is internal: ours. And internal is internal. But along the line of confrontation there is no shooting."

The Organization for Security and Cooperation, responsible for monitoring the ceasefire, said rebels had denied its observers access to Debaltseve. It said firing continued in the town, one of a few exceptions to a truce that was otherwise largely being observed.
