Ukraine Protests

Well, they could be going to police departments and give Ras something to cry about in the cop thread.

There is a legitimate debate on police militarization. I also understand there are situations that require the police to have and operate armored vehicles. Not sure where I fall on the debate though. I do know that every department shouldn't have a SWAT team nor a APC. I also have a few theories on how to reform policing in the states but not sure everyone would like them.

I agree with everything you posted.

Piggybacking off this thread but my plan is to either centralize policing at either a county or state level. Every town shouldn't run their own department, for example my town has about 2,800 people. Personally I don't think we need to have our own PD. My thought is that if you group at a higher level you can bring more resources to the table. Such as more money for equipment, training, hiring of better qualified officers, and also would have a standardized set of departmental rules and regulations on issues. Also would cut down on inter-departmental turf wars on jurisdictions and responses to human and natural disasters.

How's the job search going?

I got invited to take the Secret Service's Uniformed Division's POST test at their Memphis Field Office on the 23rd not sure if I'm going to do that though. I would have to relocate to DC and home/apartments are outrageous. I'm taking a PT test for a reserve PO position with a local PD on the 21st. I also got an interview lined up for my county's dispatching office Tuesday at 1pm. Anything is better than working at a factory lol.

Well, good luck.

Maybe in due time you can work your way into intelligence services and start coups all over the world.

In honor of the peace talks, I'm going to do a marathon of bad 80s movies where the Soviets/Russians are the bad guys and get their ass kicked.

Great moments in movie history.

I thought Girkin was replaced? Heard rumors the Kremlin became displeased with him?

He's in Moscow but obviously very connected. His VK page pretty much updates events going on in LNR and DNR. Don't think it was replaced. He did his job in consolidating some of the leadership. Some of the locals who were running their own little empire building got knocked off. Once he 'cleaned up' the riff raff he came back. Plus rumors were he was not thrilled with the slow pace either. He seems to be much happier in his posts now. Anywhere he's been it is usually to get things going to a certain point and then off to the next crisis point.

My thought was to dump some of that surplus on Ukraine. Better suited for them than the mean streets of Anytown, USA.

DC is outrageous but don't let that discourage you. There are plenty of decent basement apartments that are worthwhile unless you have a family to take with you.

I would have thought the SS received a housing allowance based on where they're stationed.

Not from what I've seen. They offer limited relocation expenses though. If you're an actual SS agent I think you get an housing allowance but for the uniformed patrol division I don't think so.

Met with a friend of mine last Friday that was a Methodist missionary in St Petersburg. The guy was more about humanitarian aid than anything else. His Russian contacts (local churches) were called into FSB interviews and told to report every single American they came into contact with. They did not list names. So the FSB laid out all of the phone records and emails to the American missionaries they dealt with. They were told to discontinue contact with the Americans or risk jail. They were told they were conspiring with foreign agents. My friend's visa was revoked and now he is doing work in Estonia. He got a temp visa to visit. He was buying groceries for a few poor families outside the city. Some of the people of the village threatened to kill him because Americans were trying to overthrow Putin and turn Russia into a den of prostitutes and drunks. He packed up and no longer goes back. This is Putin's Russia. People just trying to help the poor are considered spies. Russians now hate Americans....for what? That's right. For every single thing in Ukraine.

That's ridiculous. A bunker mentality is a great way for a nation to thrive in the 21st century, huh?

None of these agreements are going to last unless they incorporate a plan to secure and monitor the border.

no they were/are completely separate people despite what the 'last 200 years' have shown. they have almost never gotten along except to band together against outside threats at certain times. even then Ukraine has almost always been a 'soft' spot for people to invade Russia by, of course in the end it all ends the same.

Am pretty sure the agreement says that Kiev will control the borders.

IF all previous conditions met AND at the end of 2015. The first part is a big IF. And for the second part? Quite a lot can be done damage wise in 10.5 months. Considering Russia and the two hand crafted puppet regimes never honored the first Minsk I am skeptical of this one as well.
