DeBord is coming (merged)

Love Butch. Think he truly wants and works hard at making UT a power again. He has done a great job thus far.

However, don't like the hire. Just my opinion. I may be wrong, and trust me, I hope I am. All the "trust Butch', "Butch is infallible' crowd can call me out all day, but while he is great and has been great for us, he is not immune to bad decision making. There is the whole red-shirting Josh Dobbs thing....

I will trust him on this, but I just think it is odd to make a hire like this at a time like this with a talent laden offense like this. Not gonna moan and groan or attack Butch or Debord, I just hoped for a different outcome. Hoping I eat MAJOR crow.

I think some of you may be overreacting. I've seen pictures from DeBord's last season as a coach, and they seemed to be using the forward pass in a pretty inventive way.

A big thanks to the person responsible for bumping the 'Cincy staff' thread.

The context it provides for the "guarantees" of certain posters here, has added to my
experience.

I find that with enough ranch dressing crow isn't all that bad lol.

Some people on here. I swear.

Do you guys really think that CBJ would put himself, his family, his time, and honestly his profession as a head coach in jeopardy by hiring Debord? Butch knows something that we, as fans, don't.

Butch has fought his way to the top tier of college coaching. Now that he's made it this far, and with the way he's recruiting, there's only one more thing to do: win.

He's succeeded at every phase in one way or another. He's not going to throw everything he's worked for down the drain.

Why wouldn't we trust he will make the right hire?

Don't be bringing logic to this meltdown...

Has been indicated...
You mean with a wink and a nod?
It's bs!
If you wanna feather debords ripple go for it.
He is a lackluster hire.
People are looking for a comeback story rather than betting safe.
It's a gamble.
I hope it works, but he better freaking earn it!
Everyone is a gamble.

Debord is less a gamble than hiring someone he didn't know and having a more major shakeup of the coaching staff. Both of which would happen if anyone else was the hire.

Or.... maybe he was busy figuring out how to pull off the biggest recruiting coup I have seen in my many years of following the Vols closely.

It wouldn't be uncommon to have a GA run drills with QB's. Not much question in my mind that Jones' personal involvement with that group will be high.

You're drinking the Kool-Aid a little too hard. DeBord was mentioned weeks ago as a possibility. Jones wasn't solely working on getting Richmond here, he can only contact a recruit so many times anyone. Plus, signing day was yesterday, so it's not like he just decided to look at OC candidates today.

These "reasons" sound more like rationalizations, including the QB coach part.

Hey, maybe look at it this way.... hopefully by 2016 our Defense should be so good and dominant that we will only need to score around 10 points a game to win anyway!

Never denied this. I was refuting that he was actively involved in coaching still which is what you were implying. "Regular" attendance wtf is that. Christmas occurs regularly!

I think Butch is going to be more hands on next year with the offense and wants a coordinator with extensive knowledge of the rules and fundamentals. Basically a nanny to keep the players dressed well and in line.

Like it or not, Bob has been spot on. Makes me wonder if BOB is an acronym... Bride Of Butch? Probable? No. Possible? Hmmmmmm....

Possible? Then it happened.

Do you want your son to end up with the "comfortable" girl or the prom queen?

So you are saying he'll turn Dobbs into a Hall of Famer? Awesome!

1937 — Rookie Sammy Baugh throws second-half touchdown passes of 55, 78 and 33 yards to overcome a 14-7 Chicago lead and give the Washington Redskins a 28-21 victory over the Chicago Bears for the NFL championship.

That's the problem- some of us believe in proof and numbers. Some like insinuations trying to spin a negative.

Some of us bring information reported by credible sources. Some of us yell loudly and bang their heads against walls because the rest of the crowd is doing so.
