Five more days and I guess we'll see how this all plays out. Should be fun.

Naming DeBord OC today or the day after NSD IMO doesn't matter. Current commits didn't flinch when CMB walked. I don't think DeBord being named OC would have them even flinch. IMO folks are putting too much stock in this hire making any difference at all in recruiting. I still think Butch does it on ESPNU on NSD. Just more Orange pub.

If he does it on ESPNU on NSD, then it had better be a sexier hire than DeBord, IMO.

He definitely does some things with an eye toward the fans. I was just thinking aloud why the fans were so worked up about it. The last two mid-term coordinator hires are a big reason I think. Once we put those firmly in the rear view, it won't be so bad--maybe.

Yes, Butch seems sensitive to the opinions of the fanbase and social media. He might not agree with them, but he manages them. Smart.

I think everybody was hoping for a splash hire to fuel the momentum we have going, and DeBord felt like a letdown. We all seem pretty used to the idea now. Past blunders like Clawson and Sunseri have made us cautious. Nobody wants a setback now when things are finally going so well.

Butch knows he can't afford a set back. He won't choose a guy he's not fully confident in.

Of course not. But confidence can be misplaced. I'm not saying that DeBord is the wrong guy-- just that good intentions don't always translate to good results. Our past two coaches can attest to that.

If Butch hires DeBord, he's hiring a guy he has a long term relationship with. He knows what he is getting. I don't think the same could be said with the Fulmer/ Dooley examples. Jmo

I think he's doing a great job of managing perceptions. The large, supportive fanbase is a big part of Butch's recruiting spiel. If you want to sell the one big happy family concept, you need to keep people happy.

When DeBord unleashed such a backlash of negativity-- warranted or not-- Butch knew he had to manage the reaction and do what he thought best for the program while being responsive to the fanbase and mindful of the media. One by one, the candidates everybody wanted are being crossed off the list-- for plausible reasons. Soon only one will be left. Voila-- we've looked coast to coast and this is the best man for the job! Negativity diffused. Goal accomplished. Fanbase pacified and everybody happy with an impressive recruiting haul. Butch is a master.

Methinks he speaks truth...

All I know is big boy football bout to start backup on the hill. We love ya Vic but this ain't high school any more and competition within the team is about to take us to a higher level.

Nah, he won't announce on NSD. He'll want NSD to be all about NSD. Why dilute the hot press of the (hopefully) big haul with other news that's more subject to debate? If he waits a day or two after he can keep UT in the conversation even longer. Slow ride, baby.

But I agree there's no advantage in announcing OC before NSD. I also don't think CBJ has any trepidation whatsoever about what we'll all think about his choice, and no inclination to appease the fans. He knows he's built enough capital to cruise through to fall and believes the onfield results will shut us the **** up.

I've been skeptical of the Debord hire and will continue to take a wait-and-see approach on whether I think it's a good or bad hire. However, I'm starting to lean towards liking Butch's approach of making a hire to maintain stability with the OC hire (assuming there isn't a big staff shake up afterwards).

Stability has been a big part of what we've missed for quite some time and I think the importance of stabity can't be overstated. Debord would probably be the best hire in terms of stability assuming his hire doesn't result in an exodus of other assistants like Azzani

Why do I have it in the back of my mind that Dooley and Sunseri coached together at LSU?

Edit: I am thinking maybe because they did in 2000.

I think Butch will make the hire that best fits his goals, and that seems to be DeBord. But the safe hire isn't always the best hire. New people and new ideas can get you the next level faster. I'm eager to see where Butch will take us, so while I might wonder and question, I'm on board with DeBord, if that's his choice.

You've never seen that match?!? That was the legendary first ever hell in a cell match. Undertaker and Mankind. Back when I was younger and wrestling was awesome.

If you ever have 15 minutes to spare, watch that match and you'll see why Mick Foley is the hardcore legend. Dude was insane.

The second fall was just nasty. As much as the wrestling itself was classic....that is the epitome of a Jim Ross call as there is.

Surely you see the differences. Including the instillation of a totally new system and Sunseri moved into a position he'd never been in before.
