This is probably going to be long, but I'm going to lay out my thoughts on what is going on with the OC search:

Mike DeBord: Interviews first. Why? We do not know. Possibly legit OC candidate. Possibly to assess program. Possibly to float his name in NFL circles, though he is already known, so that is somewhat unlikely. If he is hired, he most likely brings no staff of his own, keeping the current staff intact, should Azzani decide to stay. It also provides an opportunity to give ZA co-coordinator duties, to add to his title/experience. It is also a "save face" move, if they cannot find another candidate, are rejected, or don't want to pay the $$$. The company line will be, "We looked, but our first guy just couldn't be beaten."

Mike Sanford: The sexy hire. BSU averaged 39.7 ppg this season. It doesn't always translate though. Former BSU OC Brent Pease failed at Florida, though Muschamp had his hands all over it. Curiously, Sanford's name has been touted highly on TOS, possibly indicating where things may be going since they have been stuck on DeBord for the last week. He interviewed for the Ohio State job earlier this month, but elected to stay at Boise. I am not sure if he had a firm offer from OSU though.

His salary of $400,000 is within the range of what we want. Going with a high $$$ coach, like Norvell, would immediately put Hart in a position to give big raises to the rest of the staff, a little bit before it is due. It's not just a $1,000,000 a year dish out for Norvell. You are looking at probably tacking on another 1.5 million for the rest of the staff. Or, you could get Sanford for $450,000 and keep the rest of the salaries subdued until we begin to win big. With Sanford being at Boise State, he probably would not bring his own staff, once again, keeping the staff intact. However, ZA would almost definitely not share co-OC duties, so he would have to be content with a "Passing Game Coordinator" title, or something along those lines.

Regardless, it is DeBord/ZA or Sanford, IMO.

Too late. It's a done deal. In fact, I have hand picked our offensive coaches and assistants right here on VN.

Volitil is the kicking coach. Got his son a scholly already.

Tux reluctantly agreed to be QB coach, and will be implementing new mutton footballs. (Had to arrange a meeting at his table to talk business)

Lebvol kindly accepted the role of counting.. things..

Pattycake has to be a cheerleader :air_kiss:

Vol Lady's job is to makes sure we are getting enough fluids. And medicine.

Glichten writes poems for the team as inspiration.

Volssam has the special job of implementing gifs on the jumbo tron to distract the opposing teams offense.

Bob Mueller as stat keeper. (I checked them)

And Butchna is just my bit... I mean personal assistant.

There once was a team and a coach
Who had an unusual approach.
They would be on a roll
Then they'd kick a field goal
The goal line they would not encroach.

If only there was an option where Azzani stays, Mahoney becomes HC at CMU, and we get DeBord and Sanford. That'd be pretty ideal IMO.

You can be the hot chick that the camera pans over to as Musburger waxes eloquent on what he'd physically inflict if he could extricate himself from his walker. :scare: Only caveat being that you can't bring your hubby...he rubs Catbone's hair the wrong way. :stop:

Does anyone else think it's a little odd that CMU has not announced a HC yet? Five days before signing day and no coach? To me, that's unheared of in college coaching. I'm not saying I know what's going on, but am asking for other explanations on the non hire.

Does anyone else think it's a little weird that Jones has to explain himself at all if he hires DeBord? If the guy truly is the best fit with him, the other coaches, and the players, it's exactly who he should hire. After all, it doesn't matter who he hires, the proof will come in next year's pudding anyway.

I guess I expect too much in thinking "we" should at least wait until the first jet sweep to start whining about it. Reading some comments in the FF (I know, I know), you'd think people were ready to turn in their fan cards based on a coordinator hire.

On the flip side, the last couple of coordinator hires made in the middle of a head coach's tenure have been monumental failures. Well, I guess I answered my own question there. Had Clawson and Sunseri not been so bad year-one, this fan base would probably be quite a bit more relaxed.

Bingo. I think it's weird too. Maybe someone on our staff, and Butch asked if they would wait to announce after NSD? I am wondering if more than one coach is heading there, and our new OC will be bringing in a lot of his own staff, minus Gillespie...I think he sticks as RB coach and gets recruiting coordinator promotion.

The last interview report I found for a CMU interview was on Bonamego of the Lions, who has been out of college coach for going on two decades. He played for them in college. That appears to be a back-up, keep the discussion going type interview IMO.

IF CMU likes Butch so much that they would wait for whoever they want until after NSD - that could explain the current OC search status.

Are there going to be any NSD surprise signings? Are there going to be any surprise commitment losses on NSD?

If I'm the CMU AD, I'd be pi$$ed about this if so. I mean, he has to recruit as well. I just think they may be waiting till NSD as well to announce. Tell me another school that would wait this long and so close to NSD to find a HC?

I would think he'd only be bringing one other guy or two at most. You need to be getting a promotion to take a big step down like that. A head coach and a coordinator is understandable for a couple of position coaches, but the only way more than one or two other guys goes (if one's on defense), is if they're told to take a hike.

Even then, I can't imagine they're paying their coordinators nearly as much as UT pays its position coaches.

They don't have to wait on one of our guys
