Game changer!
In light of this new evidence that "American instructors" held a "TechCamp" in which they trained Ukrainian nationals to use Twitter and other social media, I definitely think Russian assistance in shelling Ukrainian cities is justified. In fact, this may warrant the nuclear option.
my goodness... crimea has been russian for over 200 years. why are you all continuing to use the white house talking points? russia paid a lease to ukraine for the 20 years after the ussr disolved, but ukraine only got possession of crimea because of krushev(sp) in the mid 1950s... and even then, it wasnt ukrainian exclusivley but belong to the ussr (govt in moscow, not kiev).
I don't know. Would you support the Southwest being annexed by Mexico after a vote that was highly questionable and while Mexican Army troops were guarding the polls?
The only people who've been held at gun point are the people of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. NEVER have the Ukrainian govt been willing to listen to these people. From the get go they wanted to abolish the Russian language, tradition and rights of eastern Ukrainians bc most are ethnic Russian. These people are being killed every day because their "democratic" govt listens to the people.
What a joke..
By this logic, former European colonies should still belong to their European masters. Let's redraw the globe. Cuba and the Philippines are still part of the US! Calling dibs right now!

Are you going to refute those facts or concede the point the elections were highly questionable and the polls were being watched by Russian troops.
No election like this has a 97% approval. None.
I could see a 97% approval rating based on the ethnic breakdown of the regions that voted. Especially if there was animosity toward Kiev before the coup.
When Yugoslavia was breaking up, I bet there was an almost unanimous sentiment by ethnic Albanians to gain independance and create their own country. There could have been a large number that wanted to remain part of a Serbian dominated government, but I doubt it.
Another good example would be northeastern Iraq. Do you really think if salah al din province had a similar referendum after a coup in Baghdad, 100% of the Kurds wouldn't vote for independence?
Salah Ad Din Province is predominately Arabic Sunni, but I understand your point. And yes, most Kurds would vote for independence.
My point is that the Crimea has mixed and mingled with the rest of the Ukraine for at least 50 years and likely longer. The breakdown of the population is in no way 97% Russian majority. According to Wiki and as of 2001, the Russians only make up 60% of the population there. Ukrainians make up 24% and Tartars 10%. So in order to get that 97%, the majority of both Ukrainians and Tartars would have to vote to be annexed by Russia. And historically, neither one have any love for Russians. The demographics could change in a decade or so, but I doubt it's going to be swayed that far.
So yes, the vote was a complete and utter fraud. Zero international oversight. Russian troops "watching" the polls. Absurd numbers of "yes" votes to allow Russia to annex them. Does it really sound viable to you?
