Question? Which would be better? NCAA and losing after 1 or 2 games or being NIT champions. For those who don't know, the NCAA tournament is the first 68 teams. The NIT is the next 32.
Analogy - Think about how happy VolNation was with the Taxslayer (Gator) Bowl victory!

You cant help yourself can you ? You posts something good and then you follow it up with something as crazy as this. Nobody cares about the NIT= Not Interesting Tournament. Of course you the NCAA even if its only for 1 or 2 games. Your only guaranteed 1 game in either tourney.
How would that not be a surprise (ok give or take)? To go a year without getting beaten once is very difficult task especially with a schedule they've had. Many questioned whether Cal could get his freshmen to compete at a high level against hostile environments. I knew as soon as I said "Kentucky" my opinion would be unpopular.Kentucky going undefeated would not be much of a surprise, however Tennessee making the tournament would

If Kentucky goes undefeated come tourny time.. Thats the only coach I could see competing for Coach of the Year. Recruiting those guys and making freshmen gel is no easy task.
But yeah I think DT would get it if (and when) Cal loses![]()
Who is that? Willie Caulie-Stein is their only junior who plays. Other than that, its freshmen and sophomores. Sure you can have the most talented team, but if you have a ****ty team chemistry, you won't win as many games as you can.I disagree. freshman or not, Cal has the most talented team in the nation. He has veteran leadership and they are expected to win the ship. UT was picked to finish 13 in the SEC and if they make it to the tournament with only 4 players sticking around after cuonzo left, that would be a better achievement and more worthy of coach of the year. Not to mention with all the investigation stuff lurking around.
The gist of his question is valid...the best teams in the NIT are better than the worst team in the Tourney...that's what makes March Madness so fun...conference tournament upsets frequently have .500 or worse records...that's why the play-in games were set up...a way to weed out the worst of the worst.

EDIT: I agree tho. I think DT's achievement is greater than Cal's. I'm just saying, the media would give him coach of the year if he goes undefeated. He had to recruit those guys to his system too. No easy task just because they're talented.
Example: Memphis Men's Hoops
Confidence and momentum for the next season. That's what I think an NIT Championship would bring. That's not an easy task facing the 32 teams that didn't make the tourney like the 29-3 Southern Miss team with a 34 RPI from last year. Isn't it ironic that Tennessee was one of the worst of the worst last year? And, goodness gracious, what kind of momentum did that blowout of Iowa give the football team for the coming year? The gist of his question is valid...the best teams in the NIT are better than the worst team in the Tourney...that's what makes March Madness so fun...conference tournament upsets frequently have .500 or worse records...that's why the play-in games were set up...a way to weed out the worst of the worst.
