Most major cities are built around a central 'theme'. Yes, if UT wasn't in Knoxville, Knoxville wouldn't be what it is today. On the same note, if Vegas didn't have casinos (and UNLV) would it be the same? Would Warner Robins be the same if the military base wasn't here?

Again, you're correct about UT's significance to Knoxville, but no city would be the same if you removed its main focal point(s). Point is, if you remove the casinos (and UNLV) from Vegas, what else is there to do? If you closed down Robins AFB, what would this town have left?

Now on that same note, if you took away UT from Knoxville, and as others have mentioned, you've still got the river, the smoky mountains, an awesome climate, camping, Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge up the road...

I'm not saying the area has everything or is the best place to go in our nation, but there's a heckuva lot more to do than a ton of other places around the states, and as such, it makes Knoxville a pretty great destination. Not to mention, if Knoxville wasn't a college town, it'd probably have a much higher population. Given this, you might not have as many pieces of eye candy and drunk guys walking around in a central area, but the city would instead be stocked with gorgeous women of all ages (18+) living their regular humdrum every day lives.. except, these folks would have more to do on the weekends than simply go to a bar or playing disc golf.

I'm drunk.

i dont live in Knoxville i can be to Thompson Bowling Arena in 45 minuets to 55 accorrding to the speed i drive . but take UT out of Knoxville and it would just be a be another city albeit nicer than memphis /and atlanta u take out the pro team and georgia tech then all u have is porn shop

I am sure no one cares about my opinion but I will give it anyway :) I am from Maryland, about half an hour from Baltimore. I went to UT. UT in the summers is kinda like a small town. I visited Memphis as a potential grad school destination. I would say from those 3 that Knoxville was easily the best. Mostly because I never felt like I might get robbed. Baltimore and Memphis are just terrible from my experience. I live in CO now, about 10 minutes from Denver. Denver is a pretty nice city. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend Memphis or Baltimore to anyone from my experience. I will say I do miss seafood when I come to the south though. The girls in Baltimore and Memphis were also hideous from what I saw.

staff reache out to him for the first time in 3( several ) months... trying to get him on an unofficial because it sounds like St. Louis is a pipe dream and allens heart is at Georgia. staff wants a tackle badly but can't seem to get one to stick. I would look for Butch to sign at least 4 tackles in '16 and possibly a center. hopefully Richmond will stick but I highly doubt it

Yep. He may be coming in on an "unofficial" the weekend of Feb. 14th. He's going to try to get all those that signed LOI's to "unsign". JMO

Smoky Mtns aren't in Knoxville, Oak Ridge isn't Knoxville and an interstate intersection makes a city "cool"?

Memphis has 40/55 intersection does it get cool points?

i was listing factors that would keep Knoxville a similar sized city if it didn't have UT, but obviously without UT it would be smaller. people do travel to Knoxville and spend time there when headed to the smokey's. my family does it all the time and i know plenty of others who do the same.

Last time i was at Market square I mostly saw married couples and high schoolers. UT is also not the only college around, just the biggest, and if UT wasn't there the other colleges would be larger.

ONRL is a big draw for businesses and without a real down town in OR those businesses often operate out of Knoxville.

40/75 also makes it a stop for businesses in East TN, because if you want to go to Chattanooga/Atlanta you likely hit Knoxville, going to Nashville you either take 24 in Chattanooga or 40 out of Knoxville, Asheville/NC-Knoxville, Virginia you are going through Knoxville.

Old City would take a hit without UT, but not many cities have that collection of bars and restaurants, where you literally go around a corner or 100 ft down a street to find a different style bar or restaurant. For a city the size of Knoxville it is very condensed making it easy to hit one thing after another by walking. Chattanooga is same size and also in East TN but is much more spread out and therefore has much less of vibe to it.

The thing about abrock is that any of us could just guess on this stuff and be as right as he has been so it makes him seem less credible. He is not anywhere near the league of eazyTD or NotRPP.

Well abrock, I like your info.

Hopefully these other clown will put you on their ignore list, and we won't have to read their posts about you...
