Now, before everybody gets in a uproar. It seems like the major discussion on here is about our QB situation, and rightfully so since our situation at that position is an unknown next year. But what i want to discuss is total team talent. If you look at our 90's teams we had talent all over the field, not just Tee Martin and Peyton Manning. I'm talking about all the other guys, you all know the names, Al Wilson, Goodrich, Henry etc... Has our recruiting not been as good as advertised, or have they not panned out or what? I dont know. What is the opinion of the volnation?

I dont think Ainge was a star. But i do think he was a good enough QB to win us a sec championship and a high level bowl or two. Now i know he didnt do that, but is that ALL his fault, i dont think so. I really think Casey Clausen was a better QB than Ainge.

:banghead2: Here we go again, turning this thread into which of these losers was the best.

Anybody with any unbias opinion could not consider the no.2 all time school QB a loser. Take away the name and look at his stats against what has become one of the top 3 NFL QB's and arguably one headed towards possibly being the best, and throw in PM's UT stats to boot, and CC is by no means a loser. PM did have a SEC title, but so did the rest of the roster. And PM did have a better bowl record. But, EA verses CC is not even close. Shuler put up better than EA while at UT. CC has his areas one could knock on, but he played with more guts here than EA ever considered having. And he did it knowing he was constantly dogged.

Shuler was much better than either of those guys. He only started two years.

If you want to talk about deficiencies in Ainge's game, fine. But this is not the place to anonymously rip current players and label them losers.

I really laugh when some people call any of UT QB's a loser. I bet if if any of them were told that they had to perform their job in front of 100,000 fans with a potential TV audience of millions , they would crap themselves. In addition, these young men range in age from 18-22. Could any of us at that age perform in front of that kind of (potential hostile)crowd. Please let us know because you are a potential presidental candidate, actor or some other high profile individual in reference to being able to handle the pressure of being able to perform in front of a crowd.:hi:

Not calling Ainge a loser but how far back to we have to go before we can find a UT QB that was worse than EA.

Again, if EA is the worst we have had in 15 years, I'd take that kind of talent. :good!: Not calling EA out or anything. I guess we have just been somewhat spoiled.

I like your thinking. Just getting on the field at a UT home game says something. I'd love annual titles of some sort every year just as much as anyone else, but that is a point so often overlooked by us message board coaches. In the end, whether UT, Bama, Auburn, UGA, LSU, UF...They are all young kids just out of high school and for alot the first time out of their county, and these are all very big stages in the D1 programs. Especially the top 25 ranks.

Nothing wrong with that. In fact, if any of them were really bad in recent years they transferred or rode the pine. I guess you have to go back to Francis. Holloway, Streeter, Shuler, Colquitt, Martin, Manning, Helton, Kelly, CC, EA were all viable talent, even if not all were super duper stars. Ricky C was just a byproduct of not having anything else, even though he gave his best.

See AJ Suggs, Joey Matthews and a few others.

See their length of time given in the position as well. They weren't "starters." They were given the chance, and pulled for obvious reasons.

Rick Clausen was a great competitor, but he had no business starting in the SEC.

I guess I can go with that.

Funny how he started for two different top tier SEC teams though. :birgits_giggle: (due to lack of other options? maybe)

Glad to hear there are still rational people out there....:p

Wasnt AJ Suggs QB when we had the gators beat untill the jabar gaffney non catch?

Yep . . . The reason I remember is because that was the football season my sister ruined. She had an engagement party during the Florida game and then got married during the Georgia game. :realmad:
