Umm, you may want to pay close attention as to who is providing this info. He knows a thing or 2 about football. He's a letterman RB for our beloved Vols...I'll let you put 2 and 2 together.

Different perspectives are always good, but I think you're right. The viewpoint of some is so much more qualified and informed than mine that I choose not to argue with them. The reasons behind their opinion are very interesting to hear though.

Eli is very calm but highly motivated and driven. Drew is a nice young man but doesn't come across as very driven. A Mentality of being able to just coast everywhere.

Exactly, he's happy with being good. Much different than wanting to be the best.

There are 2 sides to the star debate. On the left you have guys that think only 5 stars and high 4 stars is always a must. On the right you have guys that think stars don't matter at all. The truth is in the middle. I try not to be extreme one way or the other. See them all for their positive.

That is why coaches recruit for their system. A 3 star guy may fit what they're going for more than the 4 star guy. Oregon is a great example of recruiting for their system. They want speed every where. A 3 star guy may not have enough size to be bumped to 4 or 5 stars, but he may run a 4.3 40 and be a track star. In their system he is the perfect fit.

Vols still recruiting Richmond?

"I think there have been some recent conversations. But, I talked to Richmond at the end of this past week and he said he was unlikely to visit Tennessee but wouldn't completely close the door on it."

This makes sense, but would this be as applicable to an o-lineman? I have always looked at that position as one that would be pretty universal in most systems.

It can be, yes. Some offenses like to run different forms of zone blocking, so the style of linemen will be a little different. it is very important to have a very athletic tackle. When recruiting, a 4 or 5 star tackle is important because a lot of times their athleticism is more superior to a lower rated tackle. When it comes to guards, you can develop a 3 star lineman to become a great guard or center.

Sounds like he is one of the highly rated recruits that have called the coaches and requested to visit. Sounds like the coaches might have shut him down. If so, good, especially after recruiting our targets to Ole Miss on our dime.

Thanks for the education. That changes my perspective a bit on the value of some o-lineman. It's the one position on the field that I never played or understood as well as some others.

Just from experience. You can tell a lot by a players eyes of how good they will be. Although Drew may be talented he is not a player I expect to be big time. Look at the difference in his eyes compared to jack jones. Drew has the build but his mindset may not be there. This is not a loss at all.

I agree with this 100%. My Dad was raised up poor and in very tough conditions and was a WW2 veteran and he taught me a lot about dealing with people when I was growing up. One of the things he stressed was looking at a persons eyes will tell you a lot about them. The eyes will show fear, complacency or weakness. They will also show toughness and determination.
I would rather go into battle with Jack Jones than Drew Richmond just by looking at their eyes.
VFL34 knows what he's talking about.

I think it's a little ridiculous to judge high school kids on their potential by the way their eyes look...

Considering he was part of the winningest era of TN football he probably knows a thing or two about what a great player looks like. I also don't think he is talking about pictures as I believe he has met both Jones and Richmond face to face and saying Jones has a fire about him which we know from his nastiness on field. He apparently didn't see that same fire from Richmond.

Precisely on point. He wouldn't match jones intensity.

You think this big ball of common sense will save you! Hahahahaha!

Agreed. But logic has already been attempted with this yahoo from Bathsalts that babbles on about stars. So it needed to be pointed out that nonathletic analysts grading kids in shorts tend to be wrong a lot. We all want higher rated players, but stars don't always factor in other issues as to why a kid is a take or not. Offer lists to me is the best barometer.

Can someone please put a pic of Leonard Little's "crazy eye" here ? That will prove the point and this thread can be closed.
