If my memory serves, weren't florida fans chanting "Its great to be a florida gator" when they managed to defeat us this year? That could be what ultimately soured me to it.

I don't recall Living on a Prayer this year. That was idiotic. Not a fan of Be My Girl either. It's a football game for crisake.

It seems a bit tacky and generic to me. Our fans need a new, unique chant for our future revelry IMO. Anyone have any ideas?

god **** it im tired of you young guys coming in trying to change things, if you dont like what we have then get the ***k out. go to another school.

Wow, some of you guys really admire that chant as if it was passed down through the generations as a staple of the Tennessee program and not some generic chant that could have been started by Florida fans for all you know and that every other team in the nation now uses.

so by your very own statement its not good to be a Tennessee Vol.? This chant and theme has more meaning then you know.

you can hate it or love it.

It is Great To Be a Tennessee Vol.

just because you was raised up on rapp music does not mean our tradition should change in all aspects.

I actually found it pretty funny. Now Im tempted to watch the movie. I knew I would get some angry resistance and am quite surprised no one has accused me of late-night trolling.

just because you disagree with something does not mean your trolling

Absolutely never said or implied that. The chant might have more meaning than I am aware of. If so, it might change my opinion on it.

Indeed.

.

I wasn't raised on rap music but I have to agree that popular music these days is horrible. A band I have been listening to recently is VOLbeat. That name alone should warrant some curiosity.

Is the chant part of UT tradition? I just assumed it was started about the same time everyone else started using it and wasn't specifically unique to UT.

Get rid of The Wave if there's a need to extinguish a "tradition". Good lord that thing showed up at the TBA for ETSU. And if it doesn't go away entirely, please make it stop in Neyland when TN is on offense.

The FSU "indian" chant is still pretty cool. I think they had it before the Atlanta Braves Shanghaied that thing. (Multiple PC violations spewed forth there)

The Wolf-pack howl at NC State (basketball) sounded pretty good too.

Jump Around at Wisconsin is good, although stolen by others.

Worst one ever was:
2 bits, 4 bits, Smokey's on the prowl. All for Tennessee, stand up and howl.
^^^
This was actually part of the Neyland pre-game not too long sgo.

I would agree considering the responses in this thread.

Fair enough, just seems to me like when our fans chant that we tend to blend in with everyone else. Ive heard many other fan bases chant the same thing.

A joke? Listening to "Doc Holiday" while buzzing does nothing for you?

Thats exactly what I was getting at. Those chants are unique to each team whereas the "great to be [anyone]" can be chanted by literally any fan base.

I didn't know that "4 bits" thing was actually real. Some people act like the "great to be" chant is a integral part of Tennessee tradition.

I love Austin-East. Their cheerleaders used to have one for basketball games (I haven't been to a game for years, but assume it's no longer used):

Don't Let...
Don't Let...
Don't Let That Sucka shoot!!!
