Kirkland is fast and his acceleration to the football jumps off the screen when watching him. He’s a lean 220 right now and can easily put on some muscle and maintain his speed over the next few years.

Kirkland is not overly instinctive. There are times when he takes a little longer to react and see what it is in front of him. When he does trust what he sees, he accelerates in a hurry to the football. He can be a sideline to sideline player versus the run.

His greatest strength is as a blitzer when he’s turned loose to just attack. Flashes the potential to possibly be an edge rusher if asked to do so.

He’s not a violent player. I don’t mean he is soft or that he doesn’t bring the physical part of his game when needed, but he doesn’t shock blockers and ball carriers when he hits them. He stands out with his pursuit more than his tackling.

Kirkland is someone who has the speed to contribute on special teams immediately as a freshman, but it may take him a year or two in a system before he is contributing as a linebacker. He’s an athlete who I feel can compete in any conference in America and should eventually develop into a very good starting linebacker for a program.
