Lol, no....

Take those mentioned above out of our 2014 calculation and we still finish:

#8 in the Country
#5 in the SEC (just behind Georgia)

With them we were:

#5 in the Country
#3 in the SEC (just ahead of A&M)

In no way whatsoever did those guys "make" the class, nor do they markedly diminish the class..

Exactly. Add in what may have happened to the rosters in the classes of those rated ahead of ours.

MALONE: It is going to be a big game because we will have a lot big targets out so I am going to need to step up.

^This is the attitude I want when you go through freshman adversity and PT issues

Who's out besides North?

I couldn't agree more. And I'm super-excited about Butcher as well.

It's also kind of funny that people are worrying over stars in this situation given two of them were beaten out by guys technically rated lower than them.

Hendrix was rated higher than Barnett but Barnett is a superstar in the making (I feel he's a loss but he was likely doomed to be Barnett's depth here and from his standpoint leaving makes sense -- being stuck in the same freshman class as the next Clowney isn't a position anyone thinking of their future would want because you're not going to get the reps you would elsewhere).

Helm was rated higher than Wolf but Wolf may turn out to be the next Jason Witten and many have said as such. And Ellis surprised everyone this year by being absolutely clutch whenever he had an opportunity (he is going to get used a lot more than previously thought, imo as he's earned more reps and that was true whether Helm stayed or went). Helm, OTOH, was a bit of a disappointment given the expectations I had for him but I may have expected too much from him.

Scott was constantly injured - that's a pretty big problem given he wasn't even getting full speed game hits by a large SEC opponent who wants to hurt you. As talented as he is as a runner, I'm not sure that we're not better off with another spot opening for someone else because he hasn't been able to stay healthy.

We will be fine. I wish them all well at their next stop.

Butcher gonna go all ham on some OT's.

As for your thoughts on:

Hendrix - Yep, agreed.

Helm - I think too much expectation was put on these two TE's. Wolf is a very very nice surprise and when people saw Helm struggling they didn't like that since he was rated higher. Kid will be good just not here. My thought is he will be going closer to home. Probably a MAC or Big Ten school.

Scott - he saw the writing on the wall. Kamara is the exact same type of back, loaded with talent, and will be co-started the day he steps on campus. Scott could have waited for another 2 years, but with today's mentality nobody wants to wait. Not saying that is what he is doing, but looks like it.

I wish them the best as well and that they have good careers when not playing UT.

In 2013 UGA signed 33 players. Right now they have lost about 6-8 of those guys that I know of. That's without looking at their roster. After this year that number will be more than 10. It happens when you sign a big ass class. Relax.

Exactly the attitude I'm looking for from our freshmen. And this guy has actually had some troubles, but he knows how to set his jaw and go about work. The only titties we got for suckling here at UT are in the sorority houses and they taste like whisky and Daddy issues.

Exactly. And getting pissed over a kid transferring from the program you enjoy being a fan of is just monotonous. Wish the kid good luck...or don't...and move on. Next class we get a good TE and some extremely sick DL recruits. I mean, seriously, Butcher is going to be good IMO. Kids a freak.

If you take 25 every class and no transfers ect into your program, that is 100. So, you have to lose 15 which is almost 4 out of each class. When you sign over 30, this stuff will happen especially if you see obstacles in your way and you do not have the fight to overcome them. Regardless if it is playing time or wanting mommy, or people too mean at your little college, you lose some and when you crunch the numbers this is not like we just lost 10 guys and only have 22 left.

Dude, no need to go all Faulknerian and everything. :zeitung_lesen:

Outstanding. I got one that tasted like Jack Daniels and now im married with a kid on the way. Its not a bad way to go lol.

Weeding out the softies.... Helm, Hendrix and Scott all 3 were softies....unfortunately you can't find that out a lot of time until you get them on campus. They are very talented and that's why you take them and hope you can toughen them up.

When it's 4th and 3 with the game on the line you want the mentally tough individuals that will strain and lay it all on the line. Hurd, Wolf and Barnett are the guys you win championships with the game on the line.

We are upgrading RB over Scott with Kamara and likely Love. DE will be fine especially if we add Phillips and or Walker with Butcher, Ford, Taylor. TE we will see what happens there but we get Bransiel back and Creamer RS with positive reviews. Oliver is the same type of player as Helm in terms of pass catch mismatch and then Ethan's bro walking on.

I won't lie, I'm disappointed those guys are leaving. But this is why you always continue to recruit. It's hard to predict how players will react once they get to campus and experience the grind of a D-I player.

I still feel confident in Coach Jones' recruiting capabilities. He's gotten guys here that want to be here and has elevated the talent level.

The only slight positive part of this is that the guys that are ahead of the transfers are also freshman. Well they are technically sophomores now.

That may be part of the problem for them..

I haven't been able to keep up with the recruiting thread here lately. But, a buddy of mine said that the DE we have committed from Maryville is going to switch to LSU? Is this true?

No doubt Scott knew that Kamara + Hurd would keep him on the sidelines. It would be hard not to see that. Kamara is a proven commodity and an absolute beast. Scott, OTOH, is more potential than proven. While I would love to have kept him, I've been very concerned about his durability for a while now. The one thing an RB has to be in this league is durable and the fact that he was always injured worried me a lot. Hopefully, for him, it was just a bad year for him on the injury front that will prove to be an anomaly because I do think he has lots of potential and hope he realizes that potential at his next stop.

It was hard not to have high expectations for Helm given how highly he was touted. I also think the fact that we saw a lot of instant impact from a lot of other freshmen raised those expectations even higher. Looking back we really had an outrageous amount of freshman talent on display this season -- I mean damn I don't think I've ever seen so much on the field star power from a group of true freshmen. They made mistakes but so many of them played out of their minds and showed flashes of absolute greatness.

Yeah, I think he will do fine at ECU or NCST. I believe those are the places rumored he is looking at right now. The injuries had me worried as well. We need RB's that will be able to take hits and deliver them back. His durability has not shown well this year. I hope he gets past that. Kid has good potential and would like to see that transfer onto the field.

I'm extremely excited about that class still. I want Hurd to get better. I know he can and I want to see him start bulldozing more people. Deliver those punishing hits to the LB's and DB's I know he can give. Berry is gonna beast at the return position. Barnett already has a Top Freshman award. I'm excited about Bates at OLB. Jakob will be good once he gets experience. I could go on and on. To think we wouldn't lose anyone from the '14 class would not be smart thinking. I was expecting this. I also CAN NOT wait until we can stop hoping on FR to come in a be better than what we have.

This is perhaps one of the best things I've seen on this message board.

GFW says Sawyers has been sick for a long time and not to worry about him leaving the team. Good news but hope he gets better fast

What? You don't like seeing a bunch of still developing skinny teenagers scrapping it out against grown men? How would our opponents feel if we sent out grownups to make things fair and stuff? Sheesh. :)
