When I saw the FF the first time I was really disappointed. Then before I gave up on it I somehow wandered over here. I'm 55 and very happy that we have so many intelligent younger fans over here that are also willing to allow an old coot like me to voice my opinion too. There are good people ( family ) here. May God bless you all, and may you have a great Christmas and New Year's !

What would y'all say is the average age of members on this board? 35-50?

Sometimes I think it's 8-14 but then I look at my grandchildren that's in that age range and see that they are much more mature than a few that's on here so it leaves me confused.
I see where a lot says they're in the 20-35 range.
I'm above the mid-60's so I'm probably in the minority. I do enjoy reading their posts though, a lot of them seem to know quite a bit about current football schemes which because it was about 50 years ago when I played I don't know much what's used now.

So Butch's raise is quite a bit more than $250,000... Interesting

it only makes sense if he were really approached by michigan. that, to me, is the only reason we would extend/ give him a raise. he already gets a bonus for getting to the bowl so thats performance based compensation built into his contract. but if michigan had contacted him seriously then I'd have preferred we pay up rather than start the process over again.

if michigan didn't really contact him, this move makes very little sense at all. wont be mad if it pans out and butch gets better next year (like 8 wins minimum) and keeps on improving; but will be mad if hart jumped the gun and just locked us in to a great recruiter but mediocre coach.

look at muschamp. went 7-6 season 1 (less of a building job at UF), went 11-2 his second season and was recruiting very well. then had a 4-8 season and this season went 6-6. even though he had top 5 classes.

not saying butch is muschamp but just saying not enough here to give him a raise since we just haven't really seen enough of what he can do.

Get lost Gramps! You're skewing our beautiful age curve! :rtfm:

You "no raise" guys are about to be in for a rude awakening. Top end coaches will be making 20 mil a year by 2020... There is money in college football and athletic departments everywhere are about to learn how big of an investment will be required to keep the money IV hooked up.

I'm 38... I think those of us who remember some tough times in the 80s, some glorious times in the 90s, and an intermittent to downwardly spiraling 2000s have a little bit more historical context to view the college football landscape.

I seem to remember LSU and BAMA being perennial dumpster fire programs for quite a while.

Everything is cyclical. We will see what happens with Florida and a new coach. They've gone from NAT'l contenders many years in a row to firing a mediocre coach and possibly settling on some no-name as a replacement.
TN on the other hand, seems to be the model of stability and consistency in a crazy coaching search off season. Isn't it nice to not be following airplane tail numbers?

So, in other words, some of us prefer to be less reactionary and knee-jerk as the FF and take a little more long-term view of things. Hence, the interest in recruiting and focusing on players who might not even be making an impact for 2-3 more years.
