Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XV

I dunno if many share this opinion but in my view the top 20ish programs are interchangeable based on whatever is going on at the moment. Right now, Alabama might be the #1 job in college football. But back in the early 2000's it was prob the #20 job.

I wouldn't put Florida in the top 5, at the moment. When Urban Meyer left, I would have.

Florida will not stay down. There are 46 Blue Chip recruits in that state this year.

That too. And as much as the one SEC coach he has beaten twice...

Spurrier is at 4. That is where Butch lands imo.

I won't complain if Butch lands at 4, as I want him to be happy, I'd just be surprised if he got that much after this year. I believe he will get there after a good (hopefully) season next year.

If not for the UM job I agree.

I think we should let another school actually offer CBJ, before we start throwing crazy money at him. His agent is gameplaying. That's his job, and he's good at it. We need to be smart.

Lost me here. When Butch has us at least in the conversation for the East, I would agree. He has beaten him twice but Spurrier's over all body of work deserves more. This is just my opinion.

Which program sells the most tickets and generates the most revenue? If its UT, then Butch should make more IMO. And Butch has the team doing better on and off the field, on track with what he was hired to do, so it's justified from that standpoint too. Plus we CAN'T lose him right now with the progress he is making. It would be a program killer and Hart should be fired if he lets him slip away.

You know I agree. But based on the UM job and a bunch of people with battered wife syndrome and McElwain coming in at 3.5 I think it will be 4. Jmo.

I can't make a single argument for Butch getting $4M. Not one.

Me either but I can't justify any of these coaching salaries being what they are. Let's face it much of what we invest in CFB is completely unjustified as a whole.

Just want to say this is my favorite thread. I joined up in the Gruden fun and then almost quit this site all together a few months later because I thought the FF was all there was and I got tired of the insanity.

You guys are a lot of fun to read and discuss with, and you have a (fairly) new RF convert in me. I've enjoyed the nation a lot more since I discovered this gem a few months ago. :hi:

Maybe it depends on perspective....

Do you decide pay based on results?

Do you decide pay based on the job/how hard you work at it?

Volatil you said you would place UT in the 10-20 range, closer to 20....I assume that's mainly based on the talent base in-state, which is on the upswing btw....

But wouldn't that go to prove how awesome of a job Butch is doing and how hard he is working? I doubt not many if any coach in the country works as hard and puts in as many hours as he does....

So what do you base your pay on?

I'm the same way that I never got involved in the site much until I found the recruiting forum.

Also following recruiting has helped me become a lot more knowledgeable about our team because I know the history of our players. Makes being a Vol fan more fun than I thought possible.

Not sure where the info came from...so TIFWIW

A guy I work with, who has some connections at SCjr, said that Auburn's offer to Muschamp is $1.6mil. That is some serious "I want to beat Alabama" right there!

JC Shurburtt said he has heard its close to $2 million per year.... Coordinator salaries are about to go insane if that happens which then cause HC to ask for more

We need to start a FFA thread for people recovering from the horrors of the FF and the pain it has caused in their lives. Careers lost, relationships ruined, and health deteriorated all due to the agony that is the FF.

Glad to have you here in the RF Face! :salute:

We totally agree. My numbers are based on circumstances not results

This is a slippery slope that Universities are entering. Coaches salaries are getting ridiculous. NFL teams have a few 7 million dollar coaches and revenue for the league is astronomically higher than that of college programs. One bad hire (in our case 2) can cripple a program for years due to buyouts.
