Their options start trailing off after this and or they start breaking out the really really large checkbook and even then their list is headed down hill from here. IMO. If they spend 80 Jillion bucks on the CSU guy I will laugh my ass off.

It sure seems to be an odd hiring cycle for sure. Not too much movement out there yet, and especially not much available for a UF caliber head coach. They're gonna end up paying big, BIG money or take a big chance. I think their best bet would be going for a two headed monster hire of kingbury from TT to HC and bo pelini for DC. Highly improbable but would terrify me
He'll keep doing it too and eventually all the pieces will fall into place. Richt is the tortoise path to a NC. He's steady. My brother in law is a UGA fan so I watch them more than I care too. As the previous poster posted most UGA fans know they are better of with him than following UT and UF trying to land the next Malzhan.Question for the comparisons...
What did recruiting look like for those legendary coaches?
Mark Richt has some of the best classes each year. Each year they have one, two, or even three head scratching losses.
Richt is a underachiever.
Bowden took a program that was less than the equivalent of MTSU and created a national power. He started from scratch. That comparison in the article doesn't fit.
Penn State Same thing.
Osborne took over in the midst of Texas and Oklahoma s reign of terror.
The right coach in Georgia would be a bad thing for the SEC.
I like Richt right where he is.
I do too but it's not as though he is a bad coach either. Many teams would give a nut to have a coach of his caliber. I think he's a lot like Fulmer in that he is a little soft on discipline which has cost them in many years because they start with key guys suspended.
If I was a UGA fan, I'd support Richt. Saban is the exception, not the rule.
As Michigan, Nebraska and UF are about to find out (like Texas before them), the market place is simply not loaded with Sabans just waiting for a phone call from a traditional power.
Richt keeps Georgia relevant and in the title chase most years.
Football is a zero sum game. If your team is winning someone else has to be losing, and vice versa. All these power schools can't win every game all the time. Georgia isn't off losing to the Louisiana-Lafayettes and Troys of the world. He usually loses to quality programs that have legit, upper tier D1 talent. Florida and USCe had mediocre years, but they weren't altogether untalented.
Anyway. Just saying because I think we need to be prepared to accept Richt-like performances at Tennessee if we want to be relevant anytime in the near future. Constant coaching turnover destroys a program.

I honestly dont think Richt will ever win a NC due to the fact that the East has been historically bad the past few seasons and he STILL couldn't take advantage of it.
The two true powers of the East have both been pretty bad since 2010 (with the exception of Florida's unexpected 2012 season) and what does Richt have to show for it? 2 SEC Championship game appearances in 5 years. No rings of any kind.
It's been 10 years since he has even won an SEC Championship (Hello, Fulmer) and he's had top 3 SEC talent nearly every year since.
I'll say it right now, Tennessee and Florida rising up in the next year or so will spell the end for Richt just like Georgia, Urban's Gators and Alabama spelled the end for Fulmer.
