'15 MD OT Pat Allen

I agree with this. Sam should have been kept if at all possible. Guy can coach OL and I think he would have been a quality coach to keep on staff.

He was killing it with freshmen and sophomore OL last year. Think he had 2 freshmen and 2 sophomore, and 2 backs over 1000?

Pittman has put Arkansas in a place o-line wise to win for many years to come. To compare Pittman and Mahoney, Pittman has signed 5-6 6'6" OT prospects compared to Mahoney's 3, one of which is Thomas who is a center IMO. The average LT in the NFL is 6'7"-6'8". You need big bodies to compete at OT, and we aren't obtaining enough of them. Butch will end up having to go JuCo again next year so we can compete at a very high level in 2016. Otherwise, come 2016, he's going to have two true OT prospects, Blair and Kendrick, though Jones and Hall will play T here as well IMO, and he'll be looking at playing a RS/true freshman if any injures occur. 6'4" players can play RT, but they don't have the length usually to be a great LT. We can't keep putting guards at LT, nothing good will come of it. With that said, Butch better be ready to cut Mahoney if our o-line recruiting doesn't get better. It's that, or Butch is putting his job in jeopardy.

I think Everyone knows Blair is our LT for the next 2 years.

Actually I think it has been reported that Blair is more comfortable on the right side.

Would be huge if he and Kendrick step up and become our starting tackles next year.

Recruiting misinformation. Imo.

Does anyone have an idea of why our tackle recruiting has been so bad? Mahoney?

We have early playing time galore but no seems to biting. The 4 guys we have committed right now are better suited for the interior.

I'm really beginning to believe that Mahoney may be the staff's weak ling in both coaching and recruiting. May be time to start looking for an upgrade there.

Ideally you don't want freshman lineman playing

I like the way you think. But we still should be able to sign elite linemen with a competent OL coach.

Should. And I blame BJ for this. Fulmer started this mess and we have had years of subpar ol recruiting. Its time to consider a change in our ol recruiting philosophy similar to what we did on the dl.

Agree with what everyone has been saying. We put too much into the DR recruitment and waiting too long to get in on other quality OTs. The DR strategy has hurt us too much.

Be careful guys, I jumped on Mahoney after the UTC game and I think a couple of his family members on the board disagreed.

I know of an unemployed coach, who used to be a great OL coach. He also used to do pretty well on the recruiting trail, until he got lazy. Btw, he loves TN! :whistling: :)

??? He's right...

Uhh no. Pittman is so overrated by the vol fanbase. He's a great recruiter, and average oline coach. Do you really think Mahoney is the one who decides what olinemen to offer and sign? No he doesn't, thats all Butch. Not to mention that a position coach isn't exclusively signed to recruits by the position they coach. Elder and Butch are the ones who gets credit for Tuttle, not Stripling.

Also, those players are coming to play for Beliema, not Pittman. You might want to look at all the linemen Beliema has put in the NFL. Its laughable to think position coaches have that big of an effect on a recruit. Unless your name is Trooper Taylor, of course.

Here is another tidbit for you, there is only 3 linemen in the two deep on offense for Arkansas brought in by a Beleima recruiting class. There are 5 linemen in the two deep from recruiting classes by Butch.

People seem to forget a Petrino recruiting class was right before Beliema's, it wasn't John L Smith class.

I don't see Butch parting ways with him but I agree. If your going to be the weak link at recruiting then you better be one of the best coaches on staff. That he is not
I agree. Think Mahoney got exposed this year on both fronts. Not a single one of his recruits in the past 2 classes has been worth a damn, yet. You can call it youth or whatever you want, but this OL was as bad this year as Sal Sunseri's defense was in 2012. All time worst.

I'm all for loyalty and continuity...unless you just flat out stink. And this OL stunk it up all year. If I am in Butch's shoes, I've got to part ways with Mahoney and find an OL coach who not only fits his system, but has a good track record in recruiting. We need an upgrade...bad.

He didn't do a particularly good job coaching the OL last year, with an NFL line.

You don't find many plug and play Olinemen. It takes a couple years to develop.
