He said Duke called last Tuesday to offer him an interview, and he was so enthusiastic he drove nearly all night from Knoxville to Durham, arriving at his hotel room at 2:30 a.m., sneaking into Wallace Wade Stadium the next morning and walking the campus before meeting with Alleva.

"I was looking for a sign, am I in the right place doing the right thing?" Cutcliffe said. "I didn't find a penny, I didn't find a nickel, something to tell me I'm in the right place. I didn't find any trash. I was at a place that just spelled pride. The buildings, the ground, you felt like you were on hallowed grounds."

Maybe we should have interviewed him down here at the University of the South. I have the same feeling walking to my office every single morning

Wonder if he took 40 on a stright shot or hit 85, then hit 77 hitting 40 at Winston Salem?

I wonder these things.

I seriously might hit up the Duke spring game if it's open to public. Which I mean why wouldn't it be.

this is what everyone says in their first press conferences...but 1.5 mil doesn't sound too bad either...

The Duke campus is "different" to say the least.....Got the gothic feel to it, neat place to go to though.....I would just stay on 40 the whole way in, straight shot....If you are heading that way you have to stop by Pinehurst and play a round to....I am not a golfer, but that place is amazing....Got some friends that live in Seven Lakes NC right outside of there.....NC is a beautiful state imo...

what, does this guy go sifting through the stands at Neyland, after games, looking for dropped change, or something? anyways, i am happy for Cut. i am glad to see that Duke is excited to have him. i cant predict if he will have any success, but he will be able to attract some good QB prospects, and that is not a bad position to start building from.

He couldn't attract any good QB prospects to Ole Miss. Eli doesn't count, he was going to Ole Miss regardless of the coach.

he will. regardless of what people say, he glued Eric Ainge back together into a decent quarterback. im not saying he will get the Pryors of the nation, but he will get the Cutlers.

He will never have a QB as talented as Jay Cutler playing for him in Durham. I'll bet my life savings on it right now. No decent QB is going to Duke. They are a joke.

utfantilidie, I can't believe you. It makes you sick that someone gets excited about an opportunity. It makes you sick that a guy who worked for this university for over 10 years has a chance to run a program?

Your little green throw up emoticon makes me sick.

Very excited: $200,000 at UT

$1,000,000 at Duke

His wife was real excited, and headed right to the mall.

I don't see what is so hard to understand about it. I admire loyalty, but not when it involves a 500% pay increase.

so excited that he's still coaching at UT for 2 more weeks

It's a deadzone in the recruiting process. It does no harm to Duke for him to coach the bowl game. He explains it better at the press conference.

He could use a good offensive showing by UT in the bowl game as a showcase for potential Duke recruits. I would think going to a place like Duke, it would be in his best interest to paint as rosy of a picture of his offensive skills as possible, and have something very recent to point to (besides the LSU game).

Coach Cut doesn't look right in this pic.

GoDuke.com

After seeing that, I kinda wish he would have just gone ahead and not remained for the Bowl game.
And, Holy crap, did you see at the bottom...
"Season Tickets $90" We cant hardly get in for one game at Neyland for that.

Yes, I realize that. My point was that if he was so excited to leave UT he would be decorating his new office instead of hanging around coaching for a bowl game.

Unless he thinks this may be his last bowl game...
