AJ Johnson Accused of Sexual Assault

statutory rape is non forcible. Forcible rape, as its name implies, is use of force in said rape.

I don't know if I completely agree with you. I think you're going to see more and more teams avoid the sort of baggage that certain kids may bring with them. This is happening to a larger and larger degree anyway on all character issues or concerns. With all the wildfire surrounding the Ray Rice affair, I can't see teams taking this sort of chance...there's the inherent risk involved in signing someone with questionable character and now there's a public relations consideration as well.

Let's see where Jameis falls...that will be a really good litmus test.

I guess it all depends on what the truth of the situation is. NFL teams can find out the truth regardless of a conviction. If the accusations are true there will be a lot of teams who take the moral high ground and remove AJ from their draft board, but there are a lot of teams who are only concerned about public perception. If no charges come of this situation and AJ is allowed to return then the story will be forgotten over time and a team needing an ILB will look at him early. If AJ is kicked off the team and the investigation or a trial drag out closer to the draft then yeah he's going to be removed off of draft boards. You are right though that NFL teams and the NFL want to avoid bad press so the investigations into players with character questions will be very thorough.

It is the same. Neither means they're guilty, just identified.

not really. Named in an investigation means they want to question you for further information. Being labeled as a suspect means there's reason to believe you committed the crime.

I think the poster is talking about Gurley being accused of sexual assault and assault this year. It has been a weird year for Gurley to say the least.

Yeaaaahhh not sure what you are talking about. He was accused of ASSAULT in a bar but the footage showed it was a white guy who did the assaulting. Haven't seen anything on a sexual assault charge against him.

Pretty much my take as well. We're in the same place we were when the news broke.

I disagree. As sick as this may sound, if there was rape/inappropriate sexual conduct, I was hoping for the too drunk/blackout type. At least there is a vague element of plausible deniability; being that she consented, although both drunk, but the victim and/or perpetrator not remembering whether or how consent was given the next morning.

When I hear "forced rape", I envision a conscious victim being forcibly held down and raped. I'm not sure that is what they are referring to. Hopefully one of our resident lawyers or law students can shed some light.

Named can mean a witness, suspect, party of interest, or several other descriptors. Suspect can mean only one thing. There is a difference. It does away with some of the speculation that has been batted around for the last 24 hours. I agree it doesn't mean they are guilty, but it means there is some teeth to the allegation on BOTH players.

And in a situation such as this, being named by the victim is enough to name one as a suspect.

So, in this situation, this new info is not really new info.

They've been suspects since the beginning. The big question is whether or not charges will be filed by the DA>

All I meant was we know we've got an incident involving a sex crime and that's about it.

no. we pegged them as suspects. That information was never given out.

Report states "No charges have been filed against either player." Seems to be in the hands of the DA at this point.

I'm just ready for this to be over.

I hope AJ and Williams are innocent, but I also hope that whatever happens happens fast for everyone's sake.
