Yeah, he is a good guy. The whole family is nice. Not best friends are anything but know them a little bit myself. Have been in their home a few times. But The player Crowder has work to do is the bottom line. He snaps great and has not been injured which is key. I am not sure we have a backup that can consistently do that. Be thankful for what we have, and hope his blocking improves. The players all work hard and I am sure from what I know of the family that he is working his tail off to improve every day.
It isn't like they were getting a ton of help from the QB play at times either. The whole offense was stymied pretty bad.

Serious question: How much have the players on this OLine played before this season? I do not remember any of them getting any type of significant playing time in these past few years. Maybe a snap or two here or there in relief efforts for our last OLine (and probably some 4th quarter action against an FCS opponent). Honestly, I would chalk a lot of their development up to not playing in games consistently. I fully believe this OLine will be better next year including Crowder. Game time experience is very key to the development of a player. Practice can only do so much for development.

I know that when I played rugby (for the small amount I was able to) my biggest teaching times were the games themselves.

FWIW, I also think Crowder is at a position where he will look better when the guys on either side of him look better.

Player Games played/Starts prior to this year
Crowder 10/1
Gilliam 3/0
Pair 6/0
Kerbyson 19/0
Jackson 24/5
Wiesman 10/0

That's it. Six starts along the entire line coming into this year. Five of those were Jackson's; One for Crowder.

Note: Not sure that one start last year by Gilliam happened, but that's what UTsports.com lists.

Edit: Yep, Media guide says 3/0 for Gilliam. Changed to reflect.

If you have a personal connection to Crowder, I'm sorry that you have to read what you do about him, but I must agree with jave . He just isn't an SEC level talent IMO.

I would suggest giving VN a break because you are going to see him brought up often and it is completely fair to do so as long as they aren't just dogging him.

He's right though about the snaps and that's definitely NOT something you mess with right now. All through Spring and Summer Camp, I saw lousy snaps from centers to the QB and that was when the centers weren't facing anyone. I also remember the bad snaps we had with Stone a few years ago - first when he was starting out and then when Dooley wanted him to change hands. Those kind of snaps are the equivalent of sacks (often for long yardage) and also give the opposing defense a great shot at a free turnover.

Yes Crowder is imperfect but so are the rest of our linemen. People keep looking for magic bullets for this line but it's a matter of experience and reps for all of them whether they're 1s or 2s.

Elder Scrolls FTW. And if they try to give us another MMO, I'm gonna lose it.

Agreed. I think it will be single player though.

I recently reinstalled Skyrim and loaded it up with mods. Haven't played it since 2011, so the game looks absolutely amazing now with all the high-res texture packs the modders have created.

I'm still playing Oblivion right now. Skyrim will be next but I like to play the hell outta my games and since I know Bethesda takes so long between developments I like to stretch out my games as far as possible so I'm not without a game. Also Skyrim seems different so I'm not in a big hurry to leave Oblivion.

Still my all time fave is Morrowind.

Speaking of arrow to the knee, I cant wait til the new Fallout and Elder Scrolls comes out

I believe this, too. This OLine is young. The whole group needs to learn how to gel together (and they will). I've also noticed that an offensive lineman can look good just by having good players around him (and the exact opposite). Crowder having a complete FR right side doesn't help him much.

For the record, I was one of those VN posters that got upset over the play of this OLine. Now, I'm understanding the situation a whole lot better. My apologies for taking so long.

@Vol_Football: JONES: I am in shock we don’t have player on our team who has played a down in a bowl game. Being home for the holidays is unacceptable.

Other than Jackson, I'm very positive a lot of the playing time was when we were up or giving the starters a breather. 3 more things jump out at me from that list:

1) Holy schnikes we have a young and unexperienced line. You would think OL recruits would see this and jump at the chance for playing time.

2) This line will take another recruiting class or two to get back to a full SEC OL squad.

3) What happened to Weisman? Are we trying to redshirt him? I can't remember.
