This game will reveal how we stack up nationally. They have a huge front line. Above average guards. Well coached. If we can play well up there it will give us confidence for SEC. I believe this is most important game so far GO VOLS

Gonzaga already has a loss to a team with defeats at the hands of Sam Houston State and Centenary. The Zags are good, they're not a measuring stick.

I am looking very forward to the Gonzaga and Xavier games.......I hope we compete well and at least go 1/2. I'll be at the Xavier game...so I'm pulling for a win in that one extra hard.

I think that we've already seen our measuring stick in a very good Texas team...and we fell well short.

No doubt. However, neither of them will carry the weight the game February 23rd will.

I'm more interested in the WKU game right now. They're a good team and if the Vols are looking past them at all, it will result in a loss.

Nice.
Making the trip from Boston to the Nati.
You should see the Duke energy center with it's CINCINNATI lights red and green it looks very nice.

Yeah....cool. I'm sure that we'll get a chance to see it. I'm looking forward to getting back to Cincy...my wife's friend is giving her one of her season tickets so that they can go to the Bengals game on Sunday....I've tried to take her spot through every way I can imagine...I've resigned to being happy for her at this point. :no:

On second thought, I'm not sure why I included Texas Tech's loss to Sam Houston State in my earlier comment. The Bearkats have also knocked off Fresno State and St. Louis. They've been good for some time. Centenary, on the other hand, is an awful loss.

Hat, I agree that this is the "weightiest" game of the season, both b/c of the in-state rivalry, the recruiting battles in west TN, and the high-profile nature of both coaches. As a TN fan if I had to pick one game for them to win, this is the one I'd choose.

But I have a ? for you and everyone else - is this game really the best measuring stick? One could argue the neutral site games more accurately predict how a team will fare in the NCAAs. I think Pearl is smart to play more of them, b/c there are no home or away games in the postseason. There might be venues that are closer for one team or another, but I bet the change of venue matters much more than the proximity of that venue.

In other words, if the Memphis game were in Nashville, say, then I think that would be the best litmus test for how each team will perform in the NCAAs. Thoughts?

I always look at a team's road performance when projecting what they'll do in March. If you're good enough to win in a hostile environment, success on a neutral floor is a reasonable expectation.

That's what I've always thought too, but I wonder if some teams and players actually prefer to play in a hostile environment, where the energy level is high, than in some quiet, cavernous arena where 75% of the fans are disinterested or uninformed. Maybe it's easier to get "up" for the former.

You've been to NCAA games at all rounds - you know that the vibe in there can be just weird, especially in the early rounds. It almost feels like an open scrimmage sometimes, and that's hard to replicate during a regular-season contest.

Folks...I watched Xavier hand it to Indiana, with Eric Gordon healthy and playing. They are experienced and well coached, damn good basketball TEAM. From the games I have watched this year Xavier can play with anybody. Their defense is very physical.
